copying grey notes (or not if I needn't)

Posted

Hi cognitones

This new grey notes visibility is real cool! So what I would like to have now is: make the vector longer with or without copying this grey notes.

cheers,

Snapshot does what you want, although it is disabled if the parameter is set with a vector already.

I'll think about whether a snapshot could be allowed nevertheless. I don't currently see any reason why not.

BTW: A feature for making a snapshot on a parameter, which is already set with a vector, should have three options:

a) the currently present vector is replaced by the inherented vector,

or

b) the present vector is merged with the inherented vector.

or

c) the present vector persists (the inherited vector is ignored), but if the present vector is looped, it will be expanded to its full length (rolled out).

+1. The currently necessary procedure to expand a looped vector to its full length (make a snapshot of the vector in an empty container and then transfer it to its original container) is a little cumbersome.

The three options are good, although only (b) would need to be implemented. The other cases are

a) Delete vector + Snapshot

c) Is the default system behavior already: The present vector is looped to the container's end.

Yes, of course you are right, option a) is not necessary.
But I am not so sure about option c). Ok, the vectors are looped to the container's end, but I have very often the situation, that I want to change a few notes (symbols) at one of the repetitions of the loop. I currently do that in this way:
I place a new empty container below the container, where I want to make the changes. Then I make a snapshot of the relevant vector. This expands the looped vector to its full length. Now I can make the changes at the vector in the new container. After that I usually drag the vector back to its original container, because I want to keep the arrangement structure flat. Finally I delete the container, in which I made the vector changes.
It would be helpful, if there were a command (like option c), which expands a looped vector to its full length (so to say: "roll out vector").

Yepp, that's exactely the situation I'm speeking about:
1) I make a one-bar-snapshot of the root container, say container A.
2) I set this container A to a length of 4 bar.
3) I let some instruments remaining looping this one bar 4 times …
4) Some Instruments I can set to 4 bars, maybe for 3 bar silence or completely new stuff
5) But the others, this ones I want to variate a bit, I have first to copypaste them 3 times so that I have now my 4 snapshots (1 orig. + 3 copypastes) in my 4 bars for the variations.

See pict.

best,
Michael
