New track - Glorious Noise

Posted

News is a bit late now, but I entered the Soundcloud tombola, paired up with an artist called VenceRay from the US. Given a month to produce a track. Due to work and educational issues we basically ended up with a few days to produce a track. I used Synfire to prototype a track, sending the stems to VenceRay, who added to the track and mastered it.

It's now available as part of the charity album that spun out of the tombola project, you can listen to the track at:

There are links in the description to the full album should you want to contribute to the UNICEF appeal or listen to other tracks (the album is a complete mishmash of styles so there is bound to be a track you like :) ).

thanks for taking the time to listen

I have to say I've long lost the taste for 4 on the floor drum beats, but I admire the whole rest of composition.  Very good work.  The orchestral and jazz are a great combination.

Well done, great work, could you please give some high level explanations on how you prepared this song in relation to synfire ?
Thank you

hi Solaris,
Initially I was sent a short piano piece in audio form. I tried to warp this in ableton to fit the tempo for trance and also correct some timing errors, finally transposing it to midi using melodyn.
The midi was then imported into synfire to work out some harmonies, keys etc.
I then started the track off in synfire importing several phrases from some personal libraries I've built up initially using the synfire engine. I quickly switched to using a combination of vst via synfire drones in ableton and ableton instruments driven via virtual midi cables(since then following some videos and explanations by Andre, I've started using midi drones for the ableton instruments).
I played around with various progressions and sounds finally exporting the midi to ableton where I could layer in some automation (I've yet to sort out doing this in synfire but I'm sure it's possible). I tried where possible to make changes in synfire and reexporting to ableton as I wanted to use sf more.
Finally happy with what I'd produced as a rough draft, I sent all the stems to venceray. He then dropped some of the stuff, incuding the original piano line, selected the parts he felt worked and laid down the piano line, brass and other tweaks.
Unfortunately there wasnt anymore time for me to the add any further changes and ruin it ;) ignoring the time taken to warp and convert to midi the original piano line, the whole song took about 2 to 3 days including dealing with the time difference between the uk and us and having to pass the stems around.

Hope that is of some help?
Feel free to message me directly if i can be of any further help?

Cheers

Wow, thank you for this extensive and super detailed answer !
I hope I can support you and the community soon -;)

I need to balance a bit my sonic goals as my main focus was sound quality/production the last year and need to come back to the basics of composition and challenge myself as well, SFP is certainly an interesting tool to restart this journey...
Thank you again, putting your song in my fav -;)
Best
