I've been working with Ableton Live a bit to see how good it meshes with Synfire, and I have to say that I am very impressed with how easy it is to host "sound racks" in this program.
Once you create a Synfire device profile and assign specific sounds/channels etc. it is only a matter of creating a plugin instance with the appropriate MIDI tracks routed to the plugin instance. At that point you can group everything and drag the group out into the sidebar as a template.
With other hosts I always had to create bulky and slow-loading template documents; a lot of the time I would have unused plugin instances that took a long time to load, and had to delete them if they were not used in my project. With Live you can just drag the template .ALS file from the sidebar into your project and everything just kind of falls into place.
Creating a variation on a sound rack is even easier, just setup the new sounds as a Synfire device profile copy, and edit a copy of the .ALS template. If you give the Live template and Synfire profile similar names, it is just a matter of selecting the appropriate profile and template and getting down to business. It would literally only take seconds to change out sounds and templates.
I highly recommend this program for use with Synfire. :)

I've decided to pass on Reaper and buy another DAW program, and a good friend, as well as others are pushing Pro Tools for many reasons. Glad to hear Ableton is working well, but do you know of anyone in the Synfire community that uses Pro Tools, and if it's worked out well for them.
As you know, I also use Reason/Record, so the ONLY reason I'm going to purchase another DAW is for use with Synfire, so before I shell out the $$, I want to make sure it works without any real problems.
I appreciate any advice or comments. (From anyone else as well).

You know I thought it odd. I'm not sure how many Synfire users there are, but I've yet to hear of one single user who also uses PT. And if that's the case, it would be unbelievable.
Why would you say that is?
All I want to know is whether there are any, or even 1 Synfire user who has successfully used both PT and Synfire.
Thanks, is it because Pro Tools doesn't host VST?

I know there are Pro Tools users for sure, however it seems they fall under the category of people who only occasionally participate in forum discussions. Site logs indicate that only a fraction of our user base is visiting the forum at all. Many customers did not create an account.
This is perfectly normal community statistics, by the way. In order to receive a quick reply to any arbitrary question, it takes a critical mass of many thousand active users.
In general, forum activity increases the more users have problems. Therefore we're glad there's nothing to worry about :)

I guess I hadn't considered that, but it makes good sense. For those who aren't experiencing issues, they don't feel the need to post on forums. Although there is still so much to learn from reading others experiences.
Just to let you know, I did buy Pro Tools LE 8 yesterday, and so my project over the holidays is to get Synfire, Reason, Pro Tools and Omnisphere all hooked together and playing nice with each other. I'm fortunate I have a friend who's a PT guru to help me out.
I had Sweetwater do a lot of research on the issues, and they assured me that the latest release of PT will accomodate Synfire, GPO4, Reason and Omnisphere. If it works out, I will be so pleased.
I am really enjoying my time on Synfire, and some very creative ideas are being spawned constantly. You've done some great work with this program, and I'm looking forward to years of productive work (or play) with Synfire.
I'll keep you informed of the whole Pro Tools set up and if there are particular issues, I'll post them.

We need to set up a users forum in Hamburg! A great reason for us in the states to come over and meet the Synfire "guru"!
