ARA support for Synfire?

Posted

ReWire has been the most convenient way to sync between Synfire and DAW. Unfortunately ReWire is no longer supported by its developer and is already unavailable on a number of DAWs.

The ARA standard is widely seen as successor for ReWire. Wouldn't ARA support for Synfire also be a good idea? Of course, ARA (like ReWire) is primarily an audio interface between software products. However, synchronization also works with it in the same way as it used to with ReWire. By the way, a direct audio interface between Synfire and the DAW would also open up the possibility of direct audio output from the Synfire Audio Engine to the DAW.

I didn't know ARA supports transport control. If so, it may be possible to set tempo and locator positions, too.

Thanks for pointing out.

For combinations like Cubase and Melodyne synchronization including transport control works well with ARA. However, in that setup Cubase is master and Melodyne is slave. It probably won't work the other way around. Synfire would then probably also have to be slave. If I remember correctly, this is a problem, right? (Synfire neeeds to do it's rendering before playback can start, etc.)

So I can't say if it's really feasible. But it would be highly desirable.
