Arrangement Rack-Shared Rack 1.7 Beta

Posted

Hi

I am confused about the difference between insert an instrument vst or au  into Arrangement Rack or into shared Rack

I have seen the new video tutorials about racks in synfire 1.7 Beta and i have learned to insert the instrument vst & Audio unit by New Arrangement Rack: Edit...

I would like to know what is the difference if i insert ,for example a massive instrument Vst or Au into arrangement´s instrument by Instr. tab -sound -device description: New Arrangement Rack: Edit... Node Engine like in the video tutorial or if i insert, for example a massive instrument vst or au into Audio & Midi Setup-Rack tab-Shared Rack tab-Node Engine?

* I am trying to Extract Device Description From Plugin... with Predator instrument

Predator has 30 bank and Synfire when i Extract Device Description From Plugin it extract three banks of the 30 banks

Are there a limited number of banks for extract?

How can i extract the 30 banks?

Regards

The new help text shown on the device editor (next update) may answer your question:

Before creating a device here, know that devices (hardware, plug-ins, presets) that could be potentially useful also in other files, should better be created on the Shared Rack. Private devices are no longer available when the file is closed. Shared devices however can be easily recalled from the menu again and again as you need them.

When you pick a shared device from the menu to use it in this private rack, a copy of it will be added to this file. This ensures your file will still work, even if the shared device is modified or removed later. If the shared device has improved over time, you can update the copy in your file.

All instruments can use shared devices directly, without requiring you to create a new rack module: Just pick them from the menu found on the 'Instr.' tab.

As for the 30 banks, create the bank manually, enter its MSB/LSB address  and extract the bank using its popup menu. Let me know if that doesn't work, It should work, though.

Hi

Andre,thanks to your answer

So if I understand correctly the only difference is that the private rack is available for the active, opened song and the shared rack is available for all songs.

About extract or create banks for devices i don,t know where or how find the MSB/LSB address? very strange words for me.

I will try to find out in internet what are they

Yes, and this focus on "Racks" is missing in Synfire GUI  when a first time users sees his arrangement screen

So if I understand correctly the only difference is that the private rack is available for the active, opened song and the shared rack is available for all songs.

The unsuspecting new user who comes from a DAW concept to Synfire, not knowing anything about shared racks yet, will most likely want to save the plug-ins and presets he creates with the arrangement (like a DAW does).

Only after learning about the shared rack, he will want to make use of that more powerful concept. The next update will reorder and rename popup menu items to make the distinction more clear.

So if I understand correctly the only difference is that the private rack is available for the active, opened song and the shared rack is available for all songs.

Exactly. You can have multiple arrangements open at the same time, each having its own private rack, while all of them can use the shared rack in common.

The MSB/LSB numbers are found on the "Programs" tab, where you also create banks.

Hi

* Andre :

† Exactly. You can have multiple arrangements open at the same time, each having its own private rack, while all of them can use the shared rack in common.

† Private devices really only make sense if you use them ONLY in that arrangement. Or if you copy a shared device to the private rack (by selecting it from the menu) to MODIFY it for that one arrangement exclusively.

Guau!!!!  Andre that is an very interesting concept

I think it would be fantastic to make a video tutorial with a practical example (opened several Arrangements, projects or songs simultaneous with their private racks and shared racks and with how to save presets and load) with this wonderful concept to clarify us

Thanks
