Change path to libraries

The phrase library is where I store lots of figures and progressions and such. I sometimes switch the computer I am working on but all of my computers connect to my Dropbox account. Is there some way to share this library across all computers through Dropbox? It appears the library directory is set to C:\Users\<Me>\Documents\Synfire Pro\Libraries and there is no way to change that.

Thanks!

You can't change the default libary path (at least not w/o also changing the default path to all your projects).

However, you are free to put a library on a shared drive and open it from there. It merely won't be listed in the options menu next to the embedded library.

You can also create a symlink in windows. Works beautifully.

Ruchir, was this on Windows 10? I tried doing the symlink with the create shortcut menu option. Synfire didn't seem to follow the link though. I have done this with some of my synths though.

Yes, win 10

Make sure the existing folder you are symlinking to is renamed so it doesn’t clash with the link.

I basically have my libraries and config folders ona different drive symlinked from my documents folder that synfire is hardwired to use.

Hmm, still no dice. The file is named Libraries.lnk. If I go to a DOS prompt and remove the extension, then the link no longer works. I can double click the folder and it'll take me to the right location with some libraries in it.

Try

mklink /J "C:\Link To Folder" "C:\Users\Name\Original Folder"

Ruchir, that worked perfectly. Thank you so much! You learn something new every day don't you?

No bother. I really appreciated your YouTube tutorials/walk through videos on Synfire.

I have ALL my "Music activities and Data" (of all music programs) on my DATA-Harddisk, labeled "B:\".

But Synfire doesn't see the "B:\" label (In the Preferences > Files).

I'm very happy with this solution. I have now ONE folder "Compose" on my DATA HD "B:\".

So, an older post can be very useful. Thanks
