Changing the key of a whole section

Posted

Hi,

is there an easy way to shift up or down a progression?

So, I have somehting playing in one key and I'd like to change all the chords in a section so that they modulate up by a tone or whatever.

I could go through and change each one however I htink there must be a way to change the chords and the key for a section (much like if you were using Midi then you'd select a bunch of notes then shift them up by a tone or two...

Thanks!

There's a context menu, accessible by right click (Mac: Control click) on a selected part of a progression. It contains transpositions by numbers of steps and to a target key.

Use the Vector >> Transpose menu, or Vector >> Change Key... to modify the current selection of a progression.

Changing the key does NOT change any chord. It just replaces the scales to match the new key as good as possible. If your music uses melodic lines, you will notice a difference. If you have arpeggiated chords, these will not be affected.

Thanks for the help guys.

So, not at my machine at the moment - will the first method give me a logic / ableton style upwards / downwards transposition? I'd like to move both the harmony and the notes upwards without changing the relationships between notes.

It sounds like it would be the first rather than the second, is this right?

Many thanks!
