Could there be a "thin notes" command?

Posted

Is there a way to easily make a 3 - 5 note part and just retain two notes at a time?  Normally I spend quite a bit of time in Logic 'thinning notes' to get a more 'open' sound'.

If there isn't a way, (other than erasing notes one at a time), can there be such a command.  I guess it would be nice if there was some variety in how the notes are thinned.

Such as note designations (1 - 5) would be tonic and fifth. With a choice of strict or loose.  Strict would be keep only 1 and 5, loose would be keep  the root, and if a 3rd, 6th, or 7th use that.

Or perhaps use a scheme similar to Band In A Box when editing a style.  Have a box that contains each note, plus passing tone. The user then assigns a weight % to each note value, so that would help SFP when determining which notes to thin out.

In Logic I do this by taking a track with 4 - 6 note chords, I strip it into several tracks by selectively 'choosing highest note'. So I end up with 6 tracks of notes.. Then I can perform individual processes on each note. Like add random velocity, then in 2nd step delete notes below a certain velocity or sub-position.
