Distorted sound from drone after reopening DAW

Posted

I'm on Cubase 6 x64, Win7 x64. The following happens with EWQL Play x64 hosted in a drone. When I load Play into the drone everything works fine for the moment. Also everything is ok if I close the project and reload it. But if I close Cubase completely and reload it with the project, I get a completly distorted sound from the drone. No matter if Synfire is open or not. Very strange. I attached a file where you can hear before and after. What can be the reason?

Man, that's really something new  :|

Thanks for posting the file. To me this sounds like an overdrive or distortion effect. There are no dropouts or digital artifacts I could see in the file that would suggest a malfunction of the drone.

Do you see any parameters that get messed with after loading? Is the same program/patch still selected?

The parameters and everything else seems to be ok after loading. If I load multiple sounds into Play, then every sound shows this effect. It is not a distortion effect loaded into the project that could interfere. It is also not a clipping effect, it happens also at low volume level and even if I play directly at the virtual keyboard from the plugin-window.

But I made some further tests right now, and I think I found a workaround. It seems that if I load multiple drones into the project, then only one of the drones shows the effect. I opened a new project, loaded four drones, loaded Play in every drone and several sounds into the four instances of Play. Then I saved the project, closed Cubase and reloaded it after that. Then only one of the drones has this "distortion effect". The other drones work fine.

The workaround will be to have one "dummy drone" which I let be corrupted and other drones for the real work. I tested it multiple times and it seems to work. But it is important not to delete the corrupted "dummy drone" from the project. I tried this. If I do that, then another drone gets corrupted after the next start of Cubase. Like I said before: Very strange!

Maybe this is not a drone issue but a Play issue. Play is known not to be a very stable software. Aria player for instance does not show such effects.

Greetings,
