Currently a mouse double click on an empty space in the arrangement does nothing.
I think it would be useful if a new container would be created in the area of the mouse click, starting where the previous container in same vertical position ends (see screenshot), or starting at the beginning of the measure in which was clicked.

suggestions regarding the length of the conatiner on:
- a normal mouse double click (mouse down up down up)
- the length of one measure
- an extended mouse double click (mouse down up down drag_horizontally up )
- the length is determined by the mouse x-position at the 2nd "up":
This would also be extremely useful in the figure editor*** (Ableton LIVE's notes editor has this feature (Attention ! Maybe there is a patent on it - if not - @cognitone: grab it and become really rich:-): This combines the abiltiy to draw notes without needing to switch the mode to select notes. And this is excatly what really sucks in most other editors: having to move the mouse from the current object you are working on, search the toggle for the mode XY which is just needed for one tiny operation, do the tiny operation, and go back to switch the mode back to the previous one, and go back to the object.***Yes, double click in figure editor is already reserved for a simple one step zoom, but I would really like to see this assignment dropped in favour of the "create figure segment" action. Zooming could be done by holding command/control and scrolling the mouse wheel (like people are used to in many other software)
