It would be great to see a function that would alter the extensions of a progression in order to better match the take.
This would let us lay down a basic progression, despite the harmonizer, and then add all of the altered 9ths 11ths etc required for a section, automatically. That progression could then be cleaned up where necessary.
Of course the harmonizer is the way to go for many things, but occasionally, when the progression is known, this method would greatly speed up a process that has to happen either way.
Also,
It would be cool if notes, in the harmonizer and other windows, that are unlikely to match the take, given the current context, could be highlighted with a color and taged with the takes note name (not just in the little box in the lower right when the note is selected as a symbol)
This would let use quickly focus in on problematic areas and identify the changes that need to be made.

Interesting idea. Sort of "merge melody into progression".
Building progression + figure from static pitch (aka Import) has a very challenging analysis behind it that is far more than harmonization. There's a tradeoff between abstraction and reconstruction. The former attempts to build a phrase that is reusable and versatile (e.g. for a phrase library or accompaniment), the latter attempts to resemble the original material as exact as possible (for more production-related use).
As you may guess, both ends do not go together well. A good reconstruction will not render satisfactory in other progressions, while a good abstraction will always differ from the original to some extent.
Your suggested tool can possibly help push an abstraction more towards a reconstruction in a controlled manner.

The only times I find an issue with the reconstruction aspect are when I'm dealing with a well known theme that people need to recognize exactly or when I have a melody that I've grown attached to.
My only real concern is the point of departure. I'm looking for ways the main melody can be quickly and exactly recreated while existing in its original context, but without static pitches. Once any aspect of that context is changed I'm game for anything Synfire wants to do.
All this said, I'm finding adding that button in the phrase editor (despite the bug, which Im working around), the new takes system and the bypass vl and chromatic button have all helped immensely. Using a combination of those tools I was able to recreate all of the themes from the original.
I'm converting them to a phrase pool today and Im going to test them tonight.
