Experimental Disable Voice Leading Feature

Posted

:D I love the new "Disable Voice Leading" feature for individual segments. This is Synfire with the handcuffs taken off. Great! It means I can use one instrument with lines that are sometimes melody and sometimes accompaniment just by turnling VL on or off as appropriate.

One thought which applies to other switches too. If you select several segments and then set disable VL on or off only one segment is changed. The same thing happens with anchors. It would be neat if the switches for several segments could be set at the same time by selecting several segments.

Likewise, it would be nice to be able to set the articulation for all selected segments in the same way.

The new features are really great though. It makes it much easier to hand intentful melodic ideas over to Synfire.

I'm glad to hear this. The feature is as new to me as it is to you. Hence the experimental status. The challange with this feature is to ensure that, even when VL is off, the segment must produce reliable results. Therefore the anchor always obeys certain VL constraints. You can however set the anchor to "weak" which will give you the entire scale.

That said, the anchor will never be chromatic. Its role is to be the departure or destination (or a waypoint in between) of a melodic move. If even that waypoint is not within the harmonic context, you probably messed up your harmony altogether.

Concerning multiple selection capability of the segment editors (and a few other editors here and there), I agree with you. This is on our agenda.
