export tempo with MIDIfile?

Posted

Have you considered having SFP export the tempo with it's midi file?  Not a big deal, but sometimes saves a step in certain approaches of work...

Tempo is exported to the file. You may have missed to opt for tempo import at the DAW end?

If Logic sees a tempo command it will obey it automatically,  I double check Logic to be sure.

When I converted an SFP arrangement into an Accompianment, the Accompianment did not follow the original tempo of arrangement. Perhaps I'm missing something..

NO...SPF is not putting out a tempo command in it's export function, It would should show up in event list, and Logic would automattically adapt to it.

On midi export in SFP I do see a send Key signature, but no tempo data.

It does, absolutely sure.

I remember a situation where Logic was asking me whether to import the tempo map or not. You may have set this to no somewhere and it seems to persist.

Here's an answer I found.  However it only works when opening a new song, it decides it will create a lovely assortment of 1980 GM sounds, and will  not let you use your template you so carefully created..

I always drag the midi file onto an already open Logic arrangement, this way  I have instruments preset.. I'll just take careful note of tempo when importing over.... not a big deal.

But the last paragraph explains how to do exactly what I want.  I thought after 20 something years, I knew everything about Logic..

Still I  notice when you convert an SFP arrangement to Accompianment, Accompianment ignores arrangements tempo

Getting the embedded tempo map in General MIDI files imported along with the note data only works if you bring in the file a specific way.

If you open it by using the regular "open" command in Logic, it will create a new project, import the MIDI and tempo data, and call up software instruments for each of the parts.

If you drag and drop from the Finder, no tempo data gets imported.

If you use the "import" command, the tempo map does not get imported either.

If you want to use a preset template _AND_ get the tempo map, do it in two steps. First use the "open" command under the File Menu to import it into a new session with the temp map. Open the tempo list. Select All. Copy. Then discard the session. Open a new template that you want t use. Bring in the MIDI file by using the "Import" command under the File Menu. Open the Tempo List. Then use "Paste at original position" to paste in the tempo events. __________________
