How do i get synfire to import progressing from midi

Posted

Hi how do I go about importing chords from a midi clip to synfire

Here goes.
I made a midi clip in EZkeys its 8 bars long, each bar in the midi has a different chord G#m7, Badd11/E , Badd11, D#m/F#
I want to import this midi clip to synfire and also retain the chords played so I can use signifier to figure out some chord changes.
When I import to syfire I am only able to replicate the strumming progression (The figure)

The synfire bass harmony always show up as B,B,B,B D#m
I tick and un tick different options when importing, still no joy.

Is there a way to replicate the chords from the midi file to the synfire Bass progression when importing midi file?

Synfire interprets the harmony based on the notes in the MIDI file, so it will never be the same as an original file unless the chords are simple straightforward block chords (which in this case they are not).

You can open up a palette in the correct key after import and alter the chords to be the same (or similar to) the EZKeys chords, but it looks like you have static symbols in your picture so you would need to change that for the new harmony to take effect.

If you already know the chord names (aka: chord symbols), the easiest way to import a progresion is to type the chords into the progression editor. That will give you the exact harmony as intended.

You'll find a chapter on "Syntax" in the user manual appendix about how to spell chords.
