How do you assign Host Automation Parameters?

Posted

When using Kontakt 5, there is a list of automatically assigned Host Automation Parameters for each instrument (Auto tab, Host Automation).  This is not to be confused with the MIDI CC automation.

The list shows values from #000 to #511 which I am able to automate in my DAW, but is it possible to use these values in Synfire?

As a test I created a MIDI file in Cubase, drew some automation assigned to #002, and imported to Synfire.

However the automation was not present in Synfire, leading me to believe this type of automation is not currently possible.  Is that correct?

For clarity, I've attached a picture of Kontakt showing that #002 is automatically assigned to the REG 1 knob for this instrument.

Synfire can't control host automation directly. You could map automation parameters to MIDI CC and use Synfire's custom controllers.

This is different with Drones in a DAW. Drones pass through the first 32 or so automation parameters to the guest plug-in. However, you will not see their native names in the DAW user interface. They show up as plain numbers only and can be addressed by the DAW only (no Synfire parameters).
