How to "export" a multi-out instrument to DAW(-Drone)?

And another question here.

 

How do I move a multi-out instrument from SF to DAW?

 

Is this even supported?

 

When I move Kontakt to DAW (any DAW, doesnt matter) I only get stereo.

With other Multi-out plug ins as well.

 

What is the workflow here, as I am sure many will use

multi-out Play/Kontakt/MachFive/etc with SF all the time.

 

However, I am not sure if SF supports Multi-Out at all?

Good to hear, I was pretty sure SF supports Multiout.

 

However, I went through the videos alredy and I still don't get it how to use multiple outs.

 

The midi setup and drone stuff is pretty straightforward, did that already before as mentioned in the original post.

 

I just don't understand how to setup Kontakt for example as a multi-out instrument,

 

this is also not mentioned in the video. It just deals with transferring

 

to the Drone in the DAW, which is indeed simple.

 

EDIT: I also found a post that you did in January:

"Plugins hosted on Synfire's Engine only provide one stereo output currently. You would need to mix multiple sources inside the plugin, so they all go to the stereo output of the plugin."

 

So now I am confused. Did something changes since then,

because in that post you stated that M-O plugs in SF are

 

*not* supported.  Also this would explain why I get stuck here.

 

So, again, what do I have to do when I work within  

SF with all kinds of multi-out samplers and I want to

transfer to DAW (lets say logic) and use theese multiple outs?

 

Seems like not that easy after all. 

 

Solution might be saving all the multi-programs,

loading them up again in Logic and then export midi

and import Midi back in Logic? 

 

Is there no more elegant way to do this?

Because this is basically how I could transfer stuff from

xyz-app to xyz-app anyways.

 

There has to be something smarter.

Hiya

you could try switching to using midi drones in your daw with your multi out plugins?  Although this means you cant prototype just using sf and the engine, you have to use a daw as well right from the point you need multiout.

Well, I assumed by multi-output you meant mutliple Synfire instruments assigned to the same plug-in. That's only regarding the MIDI track export.

The Audio Engine uses a simple mixer metaphor with one channel strip per plug-in only (1 stereo output with a mix of all instruments hosted by the plug-in). That's for prototyping inside Synfire standalone.

After relocating to a DAW, you are free to assign the 16 output channels of each Drone (8 stereo pairs) in any way your DAW supports. For final mixing, you can also eliminate the Drone altogether, that is, load your plug-in directly in the DAW. This requires you export all MIDI to DAW tracks first, of course.

Aaah, now we're coming closer and I now knwo also what the problem is.

 

This is exactly was I was looking for:

However, I don't see additional outputs with the AUs (Tested AU in Logic, Digital Performer and Studio One)

and only 4 Stereo Pairs in VST (Tested in Studio One and Cubase 7)

Also the loaded VST Drone is getting "bridged" by Cubase,

meaning it loads it in 32 bit. Why's that? 

Do I have to enable the extra-outs somehow in SF directly?

 

I have included some screenshots from the VST in S1  and Cubase

where you can see that there are only 4 stereo out pairs. Theese are "composed"

so I didnt ran the DAWs side by side but one after another,

also quitting and restarting SF inbetween.

The AUs are really strict stereo here, so I cant really take a screenshot of anything.

So here must be some kind of problem, maybe would explain why

I have some of the other  problems as well.

Thanks for bringing this up. 

The current Drone seems to have a limit of 8 channels to ensure ProTools backwards compatibility. Since ProTools is not supported yet, this can be eliminated. I'll fix this for the next update to restore all 16 channels for all formats.

I have no idea why the AU format does not offer multiple outputs. It definitely should (have just checked the code). Will test with Logic again.

Well, thats good news about the 16channel restore.
