import questions:

Posted

Forgive me if these can already be done.

1.
If we import a midi file into a new instrument we get less options than if we import into a new arrangement.

2.
In the import screen I think it would be nice to have the option to choose what instrument we want to import. Sometimes the midi file just defaults to "GM Acoustic Grand". Many midi file authors do not specify the instrument in the file. I haven't done this for years. So if we are to import a midi file "as an instrument" it would be nice to tell Synfire which instrument we want it to be.

Thanks,

dw

Good point.

The small import dialog that is used for a single instrument only should offer the same options as the full arrangement import dialog.

The reason why this dialog is so simple is that it was originally designed for HN only. I never used it with Synfire, because I always import an arrangement and then copy the phrases I want over to my current work. Thanks for pointing out this use case!

Assigning an instrument beforehand is also nice, as this will allow for a quick preview of the track's content before the actual import starts.

P.S: Note that you can always redo and refine the figure recognition and instrument assignment after the import. I often tweak the settings in order to get the best results and avoid manual corrections.
