Maintain Anchor Harmony

Posted

I'm look forward to testing out the latest and greatest in 1.1.1 build 6 this weekend.

I just had a thought for the far off whenever. It might be useful to have a "Maintain Harmony" function for segments.

I imagine it would be a toggle in the same area as the articulations at the bottom right of the phrase editor. Its function would be to hold the harmony, that the anchor exists in, for the whole segment.

This could be very useful for anticipating harmonies, extended trills and ostinatos and would be much faster than editing the harmony and layer vectors at every juncture this occurs or is edited.

This becomes especially true when later changes are made to harmony and have to be manually updated as the layers don't maintain relative relationships to one another when modified. Regrouping, changing the held harmony or the position all require several edits.

If abusing the way segments are grouped to force this sort of functionality is not ideal, perhaps a behind the scenes method, similar to the way the cue transparently effects the tempo vector, could alter the harmonic layering.

Something like this would allow for a more casual smattering of polytonality.

Have you tried the "Hold" flag for segments? It should do exacty what you describe: It forces the harmonic context to be maintained for the entire duration of the segment (and only for that specific segment).
