Missing common inversions... I 64 and vii dim 6

Posted

Hi.

1) You kick ass.

2) There's some trouble,

I'm trying to do a simple progression:
I 64 -> V7 -> I

But I can't find any of the "common" inversions on The Palette window.

Does Harmony Navigator not support inversions as a fundamental concept to the program?

I can do Vsus4 which is almost it, but it's not what I want!

The thing is, as long as we leave the world of "simple diatonic", then all of these things (Vsus4, I 64) are equally required as "go to chords" for common use. Just because I 64 is an inversion, doesn't mean it can be neglected, we actually use it waay more often than Vsus4 which DOES appear on the palette!)

I'm also trying to do a:
vii-dim 6

(very common chord!)

(ie, [D4 F4 B4] in the key of C) first inversion dim on the ^7.

But it too, isn't here.

I'm probably just dumb and probably just didn't understand how to activate the inversions, help!

Thanks for your suggestions. Did you know you can add custom interval structures to the Catalog? They will appear in all palettes and editors. HN is designed to be extensible.

The inversion of a chord is handled automatically based on instrument ranges and the progression. It will not change the chord's name. If you want to have a certain interval structure bear a specific name, you must add it to the Catalog.
