Multitrack MIDI Recording

Posted

Currently it seems you can only record one track/channel at a time. Please allow for recording multiple tracks/channels. This will allow users to easily get MIDI into Synfire from a DAW instead of going through the hassel of exporting the MIDI and then importing it to Synfire.

For example, in my case I'm using Ableton Live. Live does not export multiple MIDI tracks. My current work-around is to record everything to Reaper, and then use Reaper to export a MIDI file. Then, I have to import that to Synfire.

That's a big hassle, which could be avoided by simply recording all of the tracks directly into Synfire. Please consider implementing this as soon as possible.

Good idea. The challenge with this however is how to map input ports and channels to Synfire instruments. You would also need to change the output of all DAW tracks to loopback midi ports temporarily. That would have to be done manually each time, which is possibly even more hassle in the end.

I have been really missing the ability to record multiple inputs routed to specific instruments -- even by just using inputs on separate channels on one port. For my use it would be for recording with collaborators instead of transferring data, but the functionality could be useful for a number of things.

Like other music software, Synfire could simply have some drop-downs to set the inputs on each instrument (track).

Not a problem; I have to set each output of Live when going to from Live to Reaper. So, it would simply be a part of that step.

Again, it would be very powerful and quick to just sketch out an arrangement in a DAW, and simply record it directly into Synfire, without the hassels of exporting/importing MIDI.

That's primarily how I want to use Synfire--to work out harmonies and melodies of sketches I make in Live or Maschine.
