The subject pretty much says it all.
I'm getting desperate because I can't make it work like it should. All I want is to use all 8 channels of a single(!) instance of Omnisphere. It's one of my main workhorses and should reside in the global device rack.
Please help. :-/

Thanks, guys.
This is what I got so far:
(8 fixed channels)
But now it's getting strange:
(none of the eight sounds appear in the program list)
Even worse... I can't extract sounds from Omnisphere. I have no idea how to port its programs into the DD. All I have for now is this fixed channel setup which I can alter inside Omnisphere. But then the program names do not make sense anymore.
Note that Omnisphere does not respond to program change by design. Maybe this is the problem here.

If you click now on the name instrument on the top of the soundtree you get the names of your instruments....and assign the programs with "probe".
Not all STi gives extracted soundbanks ( samplers not )
Once it is working you can chance a sound in omnisphere for each of the 8 assigned channels ( the name of the program(s) in the rack must be manual updated if you make this program permanent ).

Yep, tried the top "Instrument" click. No sounds show up. Strange.
But I seem to get it now (thanks to your fixed channels hint).
Guess I have to live with 8 channels named "Omnisphere Slot 1-8" or similar and then change the sounds within the plugin. Too sad I can't bring them into SFE's database.

O ..i forget to mention that you must first assign (the right order) a fixed channel with probe when you assign all channels with instrumentnames and use probe then you can use "instrument" to show all assigned instrumentnames ( programs )
Now you can choose a sound in the soundtree ( with the correct soundcategory) and now it must be working..

Fixed channel sounds never appear as programs.
You can make all settings for the desired sound on a fixed channel. If the synth does not support program selection, you can use a generic sound name and category in Synfire and do all sound setup in the synth plugin.

In Halion 5 and probably also Omnisphere are sounds called "programs", so when i choose a sound in Halion5 as a fixed sound in Synfire then the fixed channel appear as a program. ( the fixed channel slot in Synfire has a sound (program) assigned from HAlion 5 ).

i think omnisphere falls under the 'sampler' definition of synfire and its not possible to get synfire to scan the 10000+ programs/patches.
The simplest thing is to add an instrument in synfire, select the drone and load the plugin (all from synfire). You then have to select the category in synfire e.g. acoustic piano, synth lead, etc and name the instrument. Load the patch for part one of omnisphere in the daw.
Then add another instrument in synfire but select the same drone. In the drop down where it says 1.(what ever you named the sound)... change that to 2 for the second part in omnisphere, set the category, give it a name, load the patch into omnisphere's part 2 in the daw . Repeat these last steps for as many parts you want to use in omnisphere (think thats 8).
You might also want to look in your daw at routing the different outputs to different tracks, depending on what you are trying to do.

This thread is about 5 years old https://users.cognitone.com/de/content/setting-pc-synfire but it mentions Omnisphere quite a lot. You may find it interesting?

@blacksun
I'll definately try that. Of course I'm aware of the advantages of Drones but for the moment I like to stick with Synfire only and later port the project to the DAW (by exporting MIDI). That's were Omnisphere comes handy because I can save the used Omni-Patches as a "Multi-program" and name it after the Synfire-Project. For additional sounds I'm still experimenting with host-in-host solutions like EnergyXT or Blue Cat's Patchwork. The latter is excellent for this kind of tasks, imho. Eventually I can save it (read: a multi-timbral setup) like I do with Omnisphere. But, as I said, I'm still experimenting to find out what finally suits my workflow best.

Thank you. No real news for me but I'm glad that you're trying to help. :)
