Note/Figure Probability Parameter

Posted

Some more food for thought...

A lot of the old Modular Sequencer Systems had the ability to

set the probability of a note being triggered.

I think something like that might be a good addition to the SF Arsenal.

With a setting like Note/Figure probability there would be really

no downside anymore in using short figures and short containers.

You can achieve pretty lively stuff with something like that out of

just a 4 bar loop with only a handful of tracks in it.

It just sounds complex very quickly. Even without changing the harmony.

Also I think it would tie in pretty nicely with the Synfire Design Philosophy... ;)

See attached screenshot for a modular sequencer software that supports note probability.

(per step in that case)

Maybe worth a consideration.

Best,

tL.

(By the way: I emulate this now with one of these tools:

http://thepiz.org/plugins/?p=pizmidi

They are free. And there is a lot of other useful midi-mangling stuff in there.

However they are 32 bit vst only and you need to patch them

inbetween the Synfire Drone and the Target Synth which not a lot of DAWs support.

Problem is that The Piz tool is a bit complicated though. Also  is *way* more useful if you can choose (and see) exactly on which notes and/or parts of the pattern/sequence you want to set the probability. )
