OPERA VOICE TYPES

Posted

Hi All

I have been studying one of the wonderful Andre´s tutorial videos (Creating a Device Description by Extraction) and I raised a curiosity about it.

Imagine that i want to create a device description of an opera voice types:

For example i have loaded in kontakt,in channel one a soprano voice,in channel two a tenor voice....

Now i want to create a device description,then I need to order the voices in their corresponding categories and sounds according to their vocal range (tessitura)

Or imagine i want to import a midi file with soprano,mezzosoprano,tenor...voices and i need to specify the sound (vocal range) appropriate for the voice imported

If it would be an acoustic guitar  it would clearly be to Guitar - Acoustic Guitar

For voices Ideally the category it would be Voice but i see that are GM choir Aahs,GM Voice Oohs,GM Synth Voice and GM Whistle but i see that their lower,middle and upper playing ranges are the same but in the real world soprano,tenor....playing ranges are different.Then...

In your opinion what would be for? :

* Female Voices :

- Soprano to

- Mezzo Soprano to

- Contralto to

* Male Voices :

- Tenor to

- Baritone to

- Bass to

Thanks

Best Wishes

You shouldn't use the GM choir AAhs and Oohs for this task. The playing ranges of these instruments do not fit.

Instead you could create a new device description for this purpose manually. In this description you define separate 'instruments' for each voice. Set the playing ranges appropriate, i.e. for example at the instrument 'Soprano' set the note c' for the minimum pitch of the lower playing range and a'' (or a bit higher) for the maximum of the upper playing range. The limits of the middle playing range and the typical pitches (the green key at the keyboard) should be set anywhere in between and the instrument category should be set to 'Voice'.
