pickup bar: bar ruler caption starting with "0"

Posted

often you have pickup bar in music (in german: "Auftakt"), or you could call it 0th bar.

It would be really helpful if you could choose whether the bar ruler in the arrangement window starts with "1" or with "0".

It's just a visual thing - but if you have to use bar "1" as pickup bar  it makes it more difficult to see common musical periods of 16 bars, 32bars, cause all is shifted by 1 bar.

yes, some  lead- in bars like in Cubase, you can start on -1 or earlier bars , all to prepare at forehand in a configuration screen.

a lot of daws cant cope with negative time. so this would put the midi out by 1 bar in the daw. It would have to be an option that was user selectable.

There is an option to have a count in..assuming you use the metronome. This isnt shown in the synfire arrange view but is useful when manually recording figures into synfire.

This is on the list. There's also an issue with DAW synch and negative transport positions. This needs to be addressed as one thing.

it should not affect anything but some pixels on the screen!  What I suggested would only mean that some internal drawing routine which draws the bar numbers now  respects a new offset value which has to be substracted  from each bar number.

Seems like a quite trivial change with no side effects...

Well, not so trivial. It affects external synchronization with DAWs. The time ruler is the most important coordinate in the system. Graphics is only a small part of it. Anywhere you display or enter time, such an offset needs to be taken into account. This means the underlying transport model needs a change, not just pixels on the screen ;-)

Anyway, it's on the list already.

I have several Ample Sound Guitar plugins which need a  -50 ms offset.

If this is what you are talking about, it's got my vote.
