Pitch aware instruments for harmonizing

Posted

This isn't a major issue at all, but I though I might throw it out there... better on the forums than in my head.

It might be interesting to allow certain articulations or sounds to be tagged with a specific intervals outside of the played note.

This would apply to sampled trills, sequences, synths with prominent intervals in the sound (often a p5th).

For an example if I play a C chord on a sample patch of a trill of a perfect 4th, Im really sounding a Cmaj Fmaj polychord or a C(9, 11).

Obviously considering how those pitches are arranged in time is a greater issue, but a little switch in the harmonizer could allow it to optionally consider those pitches in the harmonization.

I imagine an interface like the interface to set custom scales would do the job.

That's an interesting thought.

We maintain a list of ideas related to intelligent instrument support. I'm pretty sure that over time there will be a lot of insights and suggestions coming up from practical experience. Once that pool will have reached a critical mass, we will see how to condense it into a set of well-designed complementary features.

Device descriptions are a major long term development focus. Playing ranges, controllers and articulations are just the beginning. The goal is to keep away all sound-specific oddities from the creative composition process where possible.
