Plugin Scanning Time and crashes

Posted

Just bought Synfire Pro and it has been frustrating to say the least. I haven't really been able to get it running properly because when scanning the plugins (AU or VST) and the Engine comes across a plugin not registered the engine will sometimes freeze up and I need to force quit it. I have a lot of plugins and it takes an inordinate amount of time (60 minutes or more) to scan them all and then have to start over after it freezes, it is to much. Logic can scan all my plugins in less than 2 minutes, Pro Tools less than 1 minute, CuBase about the same, so why does it take SFP so long?  Am I doing something wrong or does this need fixing?

Anyone have any advice??

Thank you.

Hi Thayne,

If a particular plug-in hangs the scanner, open Activity Monitor and kill that hanging process. It’s a child process of Scanner.app, also named Scanner. After you killed it, the parent Scanner.app will continue scanning the remaining plug-ins. We will eventually automate that, but for now, kicking a hanging plug-in requires this manual workaround.

The plug-ins that hanged or crashed are put on a blacklist and will no longer be considered for future scans, unless you restart a full scan from scratch.
