Questions regarding SynfirePro

Posted

if you draw in a phrase with the pencil tool, is there a way to break it up into  smaller segments to move throughout the track?

I changed an instrument's patch, from piano to flute. I want to shorten 90% of the durations.  I couldn't figure out how to do this.   What did I overlook?

Thanx - This is one amazing piece of software.  I'm very impressed..

What do you mean by "move throughout the track"?  A figure is repeated until the end of the container it resides in (unless you disable the repeat symbol at the end of the vector). If you want to start a new figure at some point, go add a new container and place the new or modified figure in it.

The fundamental idea of a container is that it introduces a change.

To scale the durations of notes, select the segment, hold down the ALT key and drag with the mouse at the right end of the selection box.

Another way to alter note durations non-desctructively is to use the Length parameter: Drag the Figure parameter by grabbing the green "Figure" LED, and drop it onto the Length parameter LED. Then edit the Length vector with the shape tool or any other tool. Listen to what happens.

Perhaps an awkard practise on my part.  I was manually extending the length of an instrument track = say flute, I imported a midi track improvisation.  Synfire accepted it as one long figure (32 bars).  I wanted to use segments 1 - 4 measures long. Also drag some notes, later, leaving 2 - 4 empty bars.  The workflow I am using, I am not able to highlight just a small segment. The notes are too close together.  (Synfire thinks it is one long phrase, and doesn't want to break it into segments, in the arrangement window.

Reflecting on it now, I think I should have dropped segments of the original imported midi file, as phrases. Then drag them into arrangement.
