ReWire Problem (DAW Sync, Transport Module)

Posted

The following (in quotes) is a post I made today on the Cakewalk Sonar forum:

"I'm using a program called Synfire, which provides a file named Transport.dll, which is supposed to allow me to ReWire Synfire and Sonar. In Sonar, I chose Insert/ReWire Device/Transport, and Transport appeared in my synth rack.

The problem is that I now can't get rid of it. When I try to delete Transport (or close Sonar), I get this message:

Transport is currently open. You must close all ReWire panel applications before closing this project or removing a synth from the rack.

I didn't have Synfire open when I added Transport to Sonar, and of course since Synfire isn't open I can't close it. But I know almost nothing about ReWire, so I'm not sure if "ReWire panel applications" in this case means Synfire."

---

Anyway, I then opened Synfire and followed the directions on page 153 of the manual. However, I could not get Synfire to sync with Sonar. I checked the ReWire boxes on the Transport tab, but the message field read "No DAW with a Transport found."

I then closed Synfire, I still can't close Sonar, or remove Transport.

Suggestions? Thanks.

Here's my followup at the Sonar Forum:

"I since did a CTRL/Alt/Delete and was able to close Sonar from the Task Manager. When I then re-opened Sonar, the Transport module was no longer in the synth rack. So problem solved....sort of, I guess, maybe.

But I'm somewhat reluctant to even try ReWire again."

Thanks for the link.

But I think the issue is just as likely to be my own current inexperience with ReWire. We'll see.

ReWire is a shared library that both, the DAW and Synfire, load at the same time. Synfire takes the role of the panel application. Actually it's the slave, while the DAW is master.

The Transport module is installed with Synfire's Audio Engine. If there is no shared ReWire library found yet, Synfire will also install one. The best way to find out if something is wrong with the installation is to run one of the supported DAWs and test. If it works with those, it may be an issue with Sonar.
