Yep. Me again...Bummer... 
I am doing a lot of Global DDs lately and some program-extractions return such freakin huuge
lists that even with the extraction its impossible to do the categorizing by hand.
(Doing one that has 33 banks and 2461 sounds right now... lol... )
Possible solution: Add a search field to the "Programs" Tab in the Device Descriptions Menu
like in the normal sounds browser on the arranger page has already.
That way we could just enter "organ" for example and all programs
including "organ" in their name show up.
Then we just would have to select them all, open the category
drop-down menu and assign it to, well, organ... Job done.
Then it would be just rinse and repeat for other types/words.
Now that would be a huuuuuge timesaver and would make
Global DDs way more practical IMHO.

(And of course also some kind of "Favourite" Three- or Five-Star System
for all theese sounds in general would be neat as well... :) )

Good point. Added it to the list.
Already thought about pre-categorizing sounds by name fragtments, which turned out to be hard to deal with ('piano' 'pno' 'keys' 'honky' .. whatnot). And more often than not, a bad lead sound turned out ot be a great bass and vice versa.

True indeed. Autocategorization probably would lead to a lot of sounds that are
categorized wrong and that users potentlially never find, because
they are categorized somwhere they'll never look for them.
However I am pretty cerain a manual searchfield might help a great deal because categorizing
+2000 Sounds on just one Device one-by-one just takes aaaaages... Literally... :D
And when doing it manually you just know what you put where.
While some sounds might be categorized wrong afterwards,
its a breeze to just correct this when auditioning and add them to the correct category.

While it's comfortable to have a full DD, so you can browse all sounds in Synfire, it is not required. You can as well browse the sounds in the plug-in and only set the category and ranges in Synfire for the sound you actually use.
Many users get overwhelmed by the huge task of creating DDs, because they think it's necessary to have them before you can get started. But you can start right away without a DD. That is, you will end up having a (partial) DD, but you need not build a full DD in advance.
