Is it possible to set up a default workspace on startup, so that I am instantly ready to play via my DAW?

Welcome Lee! You can setup a global rack (click the suitcase icon) with MIDI connections and devices ready to use with your DAW. Whenever you boot HN2, its sounds will be available in any workspace you start.
Be sure you save the rack under a meaningful name, so you won't confuse it with HN2 default racks.
