synfire 1.6.6 build3 audio engine 1.81
if i turn off use audio engine for midi input - theres no sound however the midi data light comes on and im able to record, i see the data tracking into the arrangement window.
midi through is enabled in arrangement view and in the settings view.
my daw <reaper> is not open and before opening synfire i opened reaper and disabled all midi devices - so no conflict there.

You will not hear any sound unless you have set a destination for incoming MIDI data by clicking on an instrument in your arrangement or the setup window. Midi through always goes to the last selected instrument. That instrument needs to have a plug-in loaded with sounds, or synth hardware connected.
The small red box next to the transport buttons hoewever should flicker in any case. If this is not the case, no MIDI is received by Synfire.
If your sounds are hosted in a DAW, please check if the tracks are armed for recording (monitoring must be on).

You can launch any of the 32 or 64 bit engines as you need them, but on Windows this might not work as well as it does on OS X. Windows has issues with running multiple audio applications at the same time. ASIO at least. Works better with Windows' own audio system.

How is synfire different from other windows software which requires midi input?
I opened the console log - does anyone know how to resolve?
