In this update, the Link Preview and Transpose Harmony buttons in the bottom left window pane on the Factory page are disabled and cannot be clicked on/off.

That’s intentional. On the library page you edit the phrase in the library and thus hear what it sounds like originally. It has nothing to do with preview in that context.

If you want to edit in context of the arrangement, you can drop it there and edit the phrase on the structure page.

I havent updated yet but to be clear, we can no longer here the library's phrase in context of the current project!?

@fullspectrum Yes, you can still hear factory-generated phrases within context of the composition. But it looks like with this update (or maybe I'm just now noticing this) it can no longer be done on the Factory page. As Andre mentioned, you will have to navigate to the Structure page where you will have the option to hear phrases within the context of the current composition.

Ah OK. Thank God for shortcuts.

Speaking of which, the Navigation - Structure tab shortcut doesnt work from the Library>Factory tab.

Editing a phrase in a library based on a sound that's NOT also in the library could be very confusing. Whatever you edit in a library should not depend on the mode of playback currently selected on the structure page.

It also complicated sound management a lot, so I'm not looking back.

Note that for an embedded library this is moot anyway (it uses the same sounds as the arrangment).

Vocal melodies are extremely diverse. It's almost impossible to come up with a set of rules that cover a wide enough range. This experimantal factory is still good for inspiration. Sometimes they give rise to ideas you wouldn't otherwise have had. You'll have to edit a melody anyway.

@fullspectrum I've also been having issues with keyboard shortcuts. I put up a detailed post of my issues with the shortcuts a few months ago. Except for the main shortcuts that have already been assigned, most of the them are not working. Hopefully, this is something that can be fixed. I bought an Elgato Stream Deck just for use with Synfire. It would be nice to be able to navigate around Synfire with just the press of a button.

Also bought one a few years back Elgato Stream deck , but was suited for Cubase, where it is really handy.
My focus is on Synfire for composing and using Cubase alongside it as a 2nd composing tool is too much.

Hopefully I can use the streamdeck again for Synfire and did post a message on the forum about it a while ago to see if the streamdeck can start to be used in Synfire?

@janamdo Stream Deck usually works seamlessly as long as you have a working keyboard shortcut sequence. I'm using my Stream Deck now with Synfire to play, pause, stop and record. It's the other keyboard shortcuts that I'm having an issue with. I'd like to use it to switch between sections (Structure to Progression to Library and back, for example), to generate and favorite figures in the Factory with the press of a button, editing figures, etc. I know it's not my Stream Deck that's at fault because even if I try to enter keyboard shortcuts using my computer keyboard it still will not work.

Once the keyboard shortcut assignments are fixed, I should be able to use my Stream Deck to operate many of my favorite features consistently.

Yea, i saw your post about it. I hAve a streamdeck now i use with Bitwig.

Alot of the figure editing shortcuts are working solid. The Navigation needs some adjusting. Honestly, even with the faulty shortcuts, I've been making nothing but hits in a fraction of the time it took me in bitwig. If i were to lock in the shortcuts, thay would be a game changer.

Which keys do not work on which platform (Mac/Win)?

Windows has issues with ALT keys and most shortcuts on the Mac require the Command key to be involved in order to work from everywhere. The editor does not check that.

I am using Windows 11. I'm actually finding that the ALT key is working much better than the Ctrl key for many shortcut assignments.

So I just opened Synfire again to do some experiments and it looks like navigating the various sections works better IF I use only shortcuts OR my mouse. It's an either or thing. If I try to use both my shortcuts AND my mouse, then it doesn't always work. And it depends on which section I am navigating to/from.

For example, I assigned Alt+X to the Structure page and Alt+Z to the Progression page. If I am on the Structure page and I navigate to the Progression page using my mouse, then I cannot get back to the Structure page using my assigned keyboard shortcut (Alt+X). However, if I go to the Snippets page using my mouse, I am able to get back to the Structure page using my assigned shortcut.

On the other hand, if I ONLY use keyboard shortcuts to navigate the pages (rather than using a combination of shortcuts and mouse clicks), then I am able to seamlessly navigate to and from all pages with one exception: the Harmonizer page. I can't navigate from the Harmonizer page to the Library page with my current shortcut (Library is assigned Alt+J), but I can navigate from the Harmonizer to all the other assigned shortcuts.

So I guess my suggestion to anyone else having this issue is to choose either the mouse or keyboard shortcuts for navigation. I'll be using Stream Deck for this, so it won't be too big of a deal for me. But I don't want to speak for anyone else.

The other issue I'm having is with the keyboard shortcuts in the Factory section. I've tried assigning all kinds of shortcuts for the Generate 1, Generate 10, and Favorite and none of them work. I currently have Ctrl+H assigned to Generate 10. But when I go to the Factory and try to use that shortcut it will not generate figures. I have Shift+F assigned to favorite generated figures and that does not work either. I've tried various combinations of key commands and none of them seem to work in the Factory. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong in the Factory section.
