Synfire drones relocation possible work with UR22C

Posted

May be that Synfire and Cubase allows drone relocations with the Steinberg audio controller UR22C in Windows 10 .

There is then no conflict with the audio drivers if Synfire and Cubase are open at the same time
If you then want to mix then this is possible in Cubase.

Are there any users here who have experience with this?

Have yet to test it out yet..

The steinberg usb asio driver also does not normally work with any other audio driver in windows 10.
What is convenient is that the UR22C with the audio usb driver makes it possible in Window 10 to also be able to see and listen to video simultaneously with sound.
So studying a tutorial video (youtube) with a working Synfire is possible, which was not possible with the asio for all driver.

What is possible to use 2 audio drivers simultaneously In Synfire and Cubase : JACK audio server software.
As an example I installed Asio for all driver in Synfire and Steinberg UR22C asio usb driver in Cubase 9.5 ( set as driver in the Jack audio software).

Synfire and Cubase 9.5 now work independently of each other with 2 different audio drivers.
How it goes now with the drones ?, I must continue to try this out.

Exporting the midi from Synfire to Cubase would be via :

< In the arrange window, click the Export button next to the transport controls (only visible when drones are used and the DAW is online). This will transmit the entire composition to the drones.

I don't see that export button yet ?

What other export options are there more ...?

Oh, thanks for pointing out this mistake in the manual. It's File >> Export >> Export MIDI To Drones in DAW

Confusing for me it becomes, when you haven't saved the arrangement or/and project file for the drones

Synfire then keeps asking for this drone connection/coupling, while you don't remember what the original setup was of the arrangement file in Synfire and project file in Cubase.

You should then be able to delete this connection/link easily?...or is there another method for this..bypass

Using the Lock icon (bottom left of rack library sidebar), You can reclaim the drones from the DAW and assign them to a different arrangement.

I give up trying connecting to the drone in Cubase
Cubase crashed twice when relocation is performed in Synfire.

Strange is that the engine numbers also do not match, for example : in global rack screen enginenr 1:02
And from the arrangement screen from the rack module library drag and drop, the vst has : enginenr 1:07

Is lost track here, unfortunately

OK, dropping a vst instrument  from the rack module library onto arrangement makes that this  rack module vst instrument  is added is as a arrangment vst instrument.
This arrangement rack gets then a diffferent engine nr as it seems.
The relocation does work not work yet for all instruments and the midi export is not working yet.

The different indexing of drone numbers is indeed confusing. It's a bug.

Amazing the jack router with GUI for w10 . Thanks.  Can connect Synfire and Cubase to my Asio driver.  Voor apple heb ik al zoiets. ( loop ...... ) Goede tip uit Nederland.   lees ik dat goed Cubase 9.5???????    We zitten toch al op Cubase 12   (al dan niet R2R)

Synfire with drones is only supported up to Cubase 9.5 because of the rewire connection you need.
The rewire enablement can no longer be found in higher versions of Cubase if I am correct

Let us know if you get a  easy setup with this drones  and jack audio
Other solution is working with Vienna Ensemble Pro

Running DAW Reaper and Synfire (only 4GB Ram available ) with this Jack Asio router I hear clicks/ Dropouts.   Now switched to WASPI driver .

Heb niet gekeken naar rewire in Cubase 12.  Andre had het over Ableton 11  waar rewire afwezig is. Deze recente video gebruikt rewire (Studio One)

Sorry Studio One 6 NOT

:I followed these instructions and they worked for me in getting Synfire to sync with Studio One 5. The only reason I currently have issues with getting the two programs to sync is because I upgraded to Studio One 6, which has completely discarded all ReWire capabilites

edit :

was looking into this a few weeks ago, and the word is that you will have to revert to Cubase 11 if you want to use ReWire.

I would welcome hearing about another solution if you find one, but I'm not getting my hopes

Andre

It is not clear if Drones are  usefull in Ableton 11 ,Cubase 12 , Studio One 6 or Reaper 6.69. Why is Synfire 2 placing drones VST3 ???   Also in the  online help Drones everywhere but can we use it without Rewire for midi transfer.

If you have a look on this forum, I posted a link that shows how to turn on rewire in ableton 11, although officially it was removed in version 11.
Synfire is completely usable without rewire but the syncronisation is now based on the resolution of the midi clock rather than being sample accurate. When I purchased synfire, there was no rewire support and midi sync was the only option. Synfire includes pretty much all the options available for midi sync except it can only act as a master clock source.

There are some midi signals that you can configure to start and stop synfire using a midi control keyboard. Also if you have your daw correctly configured for an external midi clock source, its playhead shouldnt move if synfire isnt sending out the midi clock, if it does either you have something configured wrong in your DAW or its a bug (probably with the daw).

If you don't want to use drones or midi drones, just set synfire up to work with external "hardware" devices via the virtual midi cables and route the other end of the midi cable into an instrument track in the daw. You're still need to setup the midi clock sync options though.

It is still sample accurate, because the Drones provide MIDI output inside the DAW.
