Synfire Pro 1 and Synfire Pro 2 license

Is it possible to run Synfire Pro 1 on one computer and Synfire Pro 2 on another computer using the same upgraded Synfire Pro 2 license?

Unfortunately not. The upgrade turns the v1 license into a v2 license, so the former will no longer exist after the upgrade. We were unable to modify v1 in a way that it would also accept a v2 license and still launch.

To create a Synfire 1 version that runs exclusively on a V2 license (not simuntanously on V1 and V2 license) is also not possible?

Doesn't make much sense if you can still download version 1.10.12 from an upgraded account when it isn't working at all.

Thanks for your reply Andre.

It's too bad that Synfire Pro 1 won't work under a Synfire Pro 2 license.

It would have been great to be able to continue working with Synfire Pro 1 while experimenting with the pre-release Synfire Pro 2.

Yes, it's a pity. Rebuilding v1 with a different license configuration might be possible somehow, but it turned out to be harder than expected. It was too much a distraction at this time, so we put the idea to rest.

It is not possible to install v1 and v2 side by side anyway.

Thanks Andre for trying . I just happen to have two Macs and one iLock key!

I just bought the upgrade to Synfire 2. Apparently it wants me to surrender the old license. Before I do that: I still have the ILok that came in the box with Synfire 1 - an ILok generation 1. If I surrender the Syn1 license on it, can I install the Synfire 2 license then on the same gen1 ILok? Because in contrast to Syn 1 the new license doesn't show the compatible with ILok gen 1 icon, only gen 2/3? Not that it deletes my Syn1 license and then refuses to install the new one, so I would be locked out...
Also: Do I understand it right that instead of installing the new license to an ILok I could also convert this into a "cloud license", so I could use it on any computer as long as it is online (and the license not used on another computer at the same time)?

Move the v1 license from your old iLok back to your PACE account with License Manager. Should be a simple drag & drop. Then it's ready to be upgraded. There is no risk of locking yourself out.

You need a gen 2 iLok or one of those new shiny gen 3 USB-C iLoks. If you can do with the cloud option, that's also possible. It's convenient when you are online all the time anyway.

Thanks for the feedback! As I don't have a gen 2/3 iLok atm. - can I use the cloud option for now and move the license to a gen 2 USB stick later or would I have to decide up front whether I want to use the cloud option or the iLok option without the ability to change this later on?

Edit: Puh, a new iLok costs 50-60€. Quite expensive for a copy protection without any (from a user perspective) useful functionality... Can't you unlock that gen 1 keys can also still be used? Synfire is the only license I have on it, the existing one would unnecessarily be garbage otherwise.

Ok, the cloud thing seems to be revertible - so I can use it that until I move the license to a 2nd gen+ dongle.

Still not a fan of all this (even CAD applications that cost 10000€+ per license and year work without dongles nowadays, where notebooks with not too many ports are more the norm than the exception). But I can work that way - the cloud option trades unnecessary port waste with unnecessary always-on requirement - but it is at least an improvement.

Edit: Apparently internet connection is only needed to start Synfire 2 when the cloud option is used. So this might also be an option for short travels without constant connection (train etc.). Didn't do a long time test how long this would work though.

A gen 1 key is no longer an option because it is not safe anymore.

I'm not a fan of dongles either. The only way to find out is to go without them and if you go bust you know it was necessary ;-)

CAD is for business. B2B is much different. Music is the most hostile software market ever. Cracking groups are aggressive fanatics hell bent on "freeing" everything, with no regard for you or your family, if you go broke, they don't care. It's basically organized crime. I don't understand the twisted ideology that keeps them motivated. Maybe they make tons of money with trojans, bot nets or something. The level of obsession is scary and keeps you up at night.

The iLok is cool for studios and users with hundreds of licenses. There are many.

Yeah, focus for CAD software is afaik also less copy prevention but more copy detection. This software is relatively easy to crack, but it is almost impossible to remove all direct and indirect phone-home functionality. The amount of money made with "we can prove that you used our software for X years illegally, please pay full price unless you want to discuss this in court" is a very relevant part of the income of these companies. Thus using cracked CAD is just really stupid :)
