When you import a midi file into SFP, and tell it to import CC events it still tosses some away... Such CC events, as attack, decay, release, filter, resonance, detune, chorus, reset all valuesetc.. all contribute greatly to a sound.. For synfire to cut some of these off, detracks from the work you started in your DAW..
Also when one has gone to all the trouble to create a device list, SFP should reference that in naming patch.. catagory etc.. On yamaha not all bass instrument have the program # Acoustic bass uses program 17 for instance, when normally program is 17 is organ.. There are a number os instruments that do not follow traditional format.. I thought part of the point of the device list is so that SFP can get straight on with the desired instrument...
This one step would make life more easy. A lot of times I have to repatch instruments, which I went to a moderate amount of work in Logic to sound exactly the way I want .

Humm... I have to define CC for each instrument.. The CC_control_sequence jpeg is in my Logic template.. There are 16 of them configured for a for each MIDI channel, with an appropriate program.. I use Yamaha's normal program set up.. Bass on Midi Channel ll, comping parts on MIDI 12, 13, pads 14, phrases on MIDI 15 and 16..
These programs and CC events get quite often changed during the construction of a song.. The standard MIDI list of CC events is 127.. Normally I don't go over 12 usually less.. But the key to vibrancy, in a hardware synth, is these parameters are being changed as song plays.. Portomentos are often making slight but constant length changes, to make a phrase sound realistic, different sections have chorus, detune variations, Effects depths are changing.
Beyond that the Tyros style generators are throwing out all kinds of sysex commands, that is beyond my level of comprenseion, and Logic's poor adaptation and explanation oft sysex. . All of Tyros effects always come out of their style generators.. I normally record the 8 style tracks into Logic, and rechannel Porta A MIDI 1- 16 or Port B 1 - 16.; so I can create more Tyros 4 intrament generator parts.
Losing these CC's takes much out of the 'life' of the Tyros (and motif sounds).. I don't mean to throw a whole can of worms at you.. but to many composers these CC's are very important. .
Does that mean I have to create the instruments with CC articulations before I can import into SFP?.. Lately 'Import using my MIDI sounds' is greyed out.
I see no easy or even do- able solution to this, except to extract these in Logic and paste back in after SFP export, but if I've done any kind of 'pause commands.. reapeating loops of shorted lengths.. This becomes monumental if not impossible task..
Again we come back to 'what parameters and boundaries is SFP able to respond to.. You certainly can't built a DAW into it.
I'm not expecting an immediate response, perhaps others can add their ideas, or even work arounds.
Usually I start something in Logic, because I have a much fuller understanding and control over what notes are where.
I port to SFP, and dress up parts, create parts from internet gathered MIDI and the impressive arsonell of SFP tools, to create a part, I could never play by hand..
On importing the part back into Logic.. I often do extensive editing of notes, velocities, durations, placement.
It's timeconsuming and meticulous, but the results are worth it for me.
Oh I haven't tried it yet, but I assume if we define the CC articulation events, they will happen as the midi file plays?.. That would be a great step forward.
PS Are you implying something by wearing a space suit in your avator? I guess mine might be a 'straight jacket'. (not on acccount of SFP through).
