Troubles with MIDI setup

Posted

Dear All,

I have serious troubles setting up MIDI correctly.

My system is Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) on a 3,30 gigahertz Intel Core i7 X 980. Keyboard is an Akai MPK88, soundcard an RME Fireface 400.

In SFP, when I launch [ Playback / Audio & Midi Setup... ]
Inside the [ Ports ] [ MIDI ]
I can see my AKAI MPK88 listed under [Port Name]
The red square indicating that it's the MIDI Input is present,
The [MIDI Input] checkbox on the right side of the GUI is checked,
but...

The MIDI Input Status doesn't blink when I hit the MIDI Keys.

If I "play" the Keyboard for like 20 seconds, then the MIDI Input Status
starts blinking, showing it receives MIDI in messages, but if I temporarily switch
to another Software (Chrome, Notepad, Windows Explorer, anything really...) or even another windows or setting page of Synfire Pro, then : no more "MIDI in";
Sometimes not immediately, but very quickly, Synfire Pro seems to go "MIDI IN Deaf".

If I go back to the Synfire MIDI setup page again, I need to repeat
the whole operation to hope getting MIDI IN back again. It doesn't work each time.

It seems like SFP isn't able to keep listening, or to signal to Windows that it needs to keep the MIDI IN awake ?

I'm connecting the MPK88 directly thru USB.

Cubase 6.5 is my main DAW. When I launch Cubase, I need to hit the keys a few times (and play let's say 10 keyboard notes) before Cubase receives MIDI IN, but once it has detected incoming MIDI, it NEVER loses the MIDI IN earing, no matter how many standalone softwares I happen to be simultaneously multi-tasking with, or if the DAW stayed ON but by itself for 48 hours.

I'm really blocked at an early stage in the SFP Demo tour...  As well, don't know how to (where is the option ?) / can't seem to connect the MIDI IN signal to any other Plugin than the MIDI external "Microsoft Internal GM Synth".

So I can't start sequencing naturally, recording musical phrases and playing around.

Your help is very welcome.

Thanks :)

PS : Can't seem to find the answer in the manual, and my Win7 Power Options are set to everything "always on" (no USB sleep possible)
