weak segment using versus strong segments

Posted

I am studying the video : Workflow: Compose a Piano Theme

Some question arise with this video:

Scale is C major ..

- Segment monophonic bass piano ( start segments ):  2 broken c -chords in the key of C --> "we have a C major chord here .. a we need a weak note instead of a strong note" ->  why is that ?

2e take

- "Bypassing the voice leading,  Making a segment more weak" ->  why is that?

- " C major is just too strict "-->   to strict for what ?

-------------------------------------------

Has someone also a idea about my questions ?

If you listen to the notes that are played on the keyboard, then listen to synfire play them back, they are not the same

The chord progression used influences the notes synfire generates, I guess Andre wanted it more like he played so for some figures sets it to weak and in others turns off voice leading. That makes the chord progression have less influence and the notes generated sound more like he played on the keyboard.

The bit about c major being too strict, I think he means musically the chord progression in c major, it is rigid, common, like a march, not interesting, etc. so he goes to find a more interesting chord progression. This completely alters the tune and produces something beautiful.

Hope that helps?

Thanks!

It is difficult to say if you are right with this interpretation.. what is a weak/strong segment ?
A strong segment has chord tones in it..so with a given chord progression you can play symbols (notes..a melody)
what are contained in the chord progression

Opposite is the weak segment ..so if you play not chord tones in that segment

That makes the chord progression have less influence and the notes generated sound more like he played on the keyboard.

That i am not sure about.. if this generated sound more he likes when he played on the keyboard..it start with some start symbols and by loosening voiceleading and chance the weak/strong connection of the symbols than the symbols are different interpreted and he hear a more musical result.

The start key is Cmajor and the phrase keeps this C chord and it is a chord progression of only a C chord
Than a other chord progression is choosen

Well it seems that first the phrase is ready made and than the chord progression is changed

In this case of the video you make the segment looser( weak segement  +  voiceleading )  to be in able to choose a another chord progression for Major C key what has than a effect on it...something like that.
After studying the video further i realised that there are more features are showed without explanation
For me a pretty useless video, but perhaps has other users a another idea about this ?
