for some this is not a problem(if you only use your daw as a sound rack)
I want to use my DAW as my main program and Synfire as a side-kick but its not possible(Synfire is NOT a DAW)
It's so frustrating I never open Synfire any more,
I Want to use synfire.
So my question is "Will my DAW ever going to be enable to control synfires transport controls?"

what daw are you using? Ableton Live is the only daw i can get the transport to work with. can someone offer an explanation on how to use Synfire with Cubase, Sonar, Reaper, Fruity, anything. help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

Better DAW integration is the top priority project besides bug fixing. We consider the current ReWire sync a temporary solution only. At least in its state today. Our plan is to move all real-time processing directly into the DAW. This will eliminate all sync and timing issues, as the DAW will be in full control of that.
At the same time it will also eliminate the requirement to build generic sound racks in advance. The Synfire sound setup could be saved with the DAW project natively.
So, yes. If the architecture we are currently evaluating basically works, you will be able to start, stop, pause from your DAW transport. It might possibly even work better than the other way round (no latency).
All this is currently in pre-alpha state and we are not yet 100% sure whether it will work with all DAW, and with both VST and AU equally well. So please take this as a road map rather than a promise. I am however very optimistic that it will work.

@duderanch: I am using Synfire with Reaper for the example projects I make. As with every DAW; you must make sure you have ReWire enabled and MTC disabled. Both do not work at the same time.
Also load the "Synfire Transport" ReWire object into an empty DAW track. It is responsible for receiving commnds from the Synfire end.
We will eventually make the ReWire vs. MTC sync a radio button choice (can not be enabled ayt the same time).

That sounds amazing. Any timeline that you're aiming for?

As far as I know, there is no similar solution in existence yet (I remember Celemony doing some sort of bridging to a DAW, but that's likely a different thing). So this is pioneering work again. I did a complete design already, but unless we have a working proof of concept (a prototype), I would rather not predict a schedule. There are basically two mission critical questions to test out. The rest is a matter of good design and proper implementation.

I'm assuming you're looking at a VST or AU implementation.
On some level, Synfire is essentially a MIDI sequencer (albeit an awesome one). There are at least a couple MIDI sequencers I know of that run as VSTs (Maschine & Guru). So, on the surface, I think this could possibly work very well. I'm not sure what gotchas you might run into, but I'm sure you guys are looking at those.
Hope it works out!
Cheers!

The sequencer Numerology has a module that will run as an AU within a host sequencer.

time to move on from ableton. its killing me. worked for two days on a song and now the project crashes and cant render or play it.
i have the lastest version. live 8 has been so buggy its insane. the only thing is it works great with Synfire.
i am currently trying sonar x1 and have the synfire working a little. any 1 using sonar x1 and can offer a tip?
update. transport sync works. can stop start. the problem now is when i enble record. the metronome starts and sonar starts recording. any way to enable record in sonar so i can play synfire and recording will start?

i have the synfire rewire plugin working in X1. i can start and stop from the transport in synfire. the problem is i cant enable recording in x1 without starting recording. any ideas? other than the record problem it seems to work fine.
i also have sync problems in Ableton. it usually happens when i am editing and start and stop things in ableton rather than synfire. the sync quits working after a while and i have to save and close both programs.
if i figure out the x1 problem i will post.

Hiya, I dont have Sonar X1 but only the v8.5. I hate the Synfire/Sonar integration and have nothing but problems with it on my PC, might be something Im doing wrong or maybe some quirk with my PC. One thing you can look at is including the Rewire plugin for Synfire, on 8.5 it shows up under insert rewire----> Synfire. This sits as a track and acts as the interface between the two. As I said that was with 8.5 not X1.
I switched to Ableton Live and dont seem to have the lock up problems you are experiencing, however its still not great, I get loss of sync pretty frequently, the BPM seems to wander by up to 1 bpm over a song and for some reason i intermittantly get Live go completely weird on a random track, playing noise at what seems to be 10x the max level of any instrument.
I have a macbook and am going to purchase a montior cable so I can try live/synfire on the mac, other music software I use for djing seems to be a lot better behaved on the mac so Im hopeful for live/synfire.
Keep us updated about sonar x1 and post any tips you have, maybe if it all works for you, I might upgrade.
PS
Roll on the 2011 changes to Synfire as posted about on the new pages.
PPS
I did manage to overcome my 'loosing sync' and bpm varying problem by switching to MTC in synfire and in live where you set the channel for syncing, drop the little triangle down and you can select midi time code there.
