Progression editor- turn on all extensions all the time

Posted

Many times when I pick out chords from the progression editor I will choose chords like sus2 and sus4 Or even plain vanilla major or minor chords but when its time to put the melody on, I have to retype all the extensions into the prog editor to get my melody to play correctly. ive tried the weak, strong, medium choices...Maybe I'm missing something but I would like a function like all natural extensions coming from the horizontal scale turned on?

The Interpretation parameter can do this. Check out the Solo/Improvisation preset or try other weak settings.

Vanilla triads tend to be very restrictive. Try using four voice chords at least. If you don't want individual instruments to play the full chords (only the triads), you can use the purple [a] or green [c] symbols to play selected chord intervals only.

A feature I would like to see in SFP is a 'weighting' factor for each midi track. This would be a good example of SFP relying more on a 'chord' track.. For example when you loaded in a midi file, each MIDI channel would have a weight say 1 - 10.  Ten being the highest. SFP would give all tracks equal weight (which I assume it does now, with some exceptions?) Otherwise you can tell it to pay 90% attention to track two.

I always start with a 'chord' track in Logic, (to drive Tyros 4 style generators).  As I add more tracks, some with more exotic chords, in reality I have changed the chords. When I import the midi file over to SFP for further processing, it miscalculates my intentions.. (sometimes better - sometimes not)..  Although I get some interesting results, I spend a lot of time back in Logic, fixing 'clams'..  I do play with the above mentioned paramaters a lot in SFP.

With the Tyros, I often create a different chord track (chord substitutions) to generate some individual instrument overdubs..  This really widens the sonic pallette. I know this would add another layer of depth (and complication) but it might be an interesting feature..

+1 ... Mark, I think this is a very important and very good idea.
