Transient drone and some audiotracks

Try to get one  transient drone in Cubase and some audio tracks, but i am lost with the audio driver assigning
What is the initial audiodriver setup for Synfire and Cubase  for this setup  ?

I thought only the engine uses the sound interface.. drones go out via the daw

But if i do want record in Synfire, it uses the global sounds for the metronome.
So there are 2 audiodrivers involved seems to me and that is only possible with the asio audioserver : setting Synfire for the engine as client and Cubase as client.

The Engine setup has no effect on your DAW.

Be sure you host the metronome clicks on the same host as your arrangement instruments.  So if you record within a DAW using drones, you should also host the metronome in the DAW. This ensures perfect sync.

You can disable the Synfire metronome on the Settings page (the same page where you disable the Audio Engine).  Then you can use the metronome in Cubase.  That's what I do anyway!

You don't need to disable the metronome. Just assign it (the global instrument) a sound on your Cubase host.

Try to setup this for the 64 bit version, but Synfire makes no connection with the host ( Cubase 7.5 )
I add a Midi64 bit drone in Cubase, this alone should be enough to make a connection with synfire and the host Cubase?


As i startup Synfire it ( error..Windows( windows 7) is not reacting )..it stops at the engine handling and after a while it overcome this and starts up, but no connection with the host Cubase for the 64 bit drone.


What is going wrong here ..
Ps: Pete did you get this working for 64 bit version ?

Yes I got it working.  If you're trying to use transient drones, the engine should be disabled so I'm not quite sure what you're trying to do exactly?

I used first the 32 bit version for the engine with the audioserver and there was no need for disable the 32 bit engine , but  now 64 bit i must disable this as you write
So it is complicated..  :-?

You don't manually disable the 32 and 64 bit engines separately, you just un-tick the box on the settings page.  See attached picture.

Still get it not working Synfire with transient drones in Cubase 7.5 (64 bit ).
Synfire is not capable to make a connection with the host Cubase 7.5, because nothing happens.

Have you remembered to add a Transport Rewire Device in Cubase?  Then in Synfire do Playback >> External Synchronisation and tick the Rewire box and it should then look something like the attached.

Yes, i did tickboxed the Rewire transport in Synfire and also now in Cubase 7.5.
The transport4 generic message in Synfire is still showing up, although i did not add the rewire device in Cubase.
 (  i did not add this in Cubase 7.5 32 bit too the rewire device and there Synfire makes a connection with the host Cubase 7.5 without any problem. )

The current setup with no audio engine used in Synfire makes no connection with Cubase 7.5 when i add a drone  in Cubase 7.5 ... remarkable  :-D

I am not sure what the startconditions are in Synfire and Cubase 7.5 to use the 64 bit drone.

1. Make sure the 64 bit CognitoneDrone.dll is in your search path for VSTi, then do a re-scan in Cubase.

2. Add the ReWire "Transport" to your Cubase project. Allow it to set the host tempo (if Cubase asks for this).

3. Enable the ReWire Transport in your Synfire arrangement ("Sync" tab on the parameter inspector).

4. Add Drones to the Cubase project.

64 bit is in C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins

32 bit is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins

Why on earth would you want to do that?  Blacksun is spot on.  Make a video or GIF of your steps and we will all try to help.

I making good progress with the video basics and i will publish it on youtube later on 
I see that i did not explicit named the drone as a transient drone in the question above, but that  is the case here.

Hi Janamdo, I'm not a cubase user so you might be better waiting for one of those to come online, but it looks to me like you have an empty global rack. Im not near my synfire computer so cant offer some real help, but I would look at changing the instrument on the arrangement page (to the right) and see if you can see the drone. If you can pick that up (it will be private to the one project), you can then set the instrument category and give it a name. THat should then turn green and anything drawn into the arrangement 'track' should then play in cubase...

Alternatively click on add (+) in the empty global rack and see if you can add the drone then.

I try to setup transient drones in Cubase : the Vsti are hosted in DAW and music is composed in Synfire as start.
With no audio engine used in synfire there is no drone to assign in the sound assignment on the right.
The standard drones are exported Vsti in from Synfire to DAW and after relocation(export) they are not connected with synfire anymore ..this is contradictory to transient drones who stay connected with synfire.

Yes, it looks as if Synfire does not recognize your drone. In my opinion it has nothing to do with 32 vs 64 bit. 

I must say that I also sometimes have this situation that Synfire does not recognize my Cubase project with hosted drones. Then it sometimes helps to start the two programs in different order. First Synfire then Cubase. Synfire then whines that it does not find the proper sounds. Must use replacement sounds instead. Then I start Cubase with the project. If I'm lucky Synfire then recognizes the host with the drones. If not, I close and start Synfire again. Most of the time everything is fine then. But not always. Then it may be that I will lose my nerve and switch to a MIDI loopback driver.

Things are a little better with the transient drones because Synfire does not expect to find them on startup. Then you can always start Synfire before the Cubase project without getting this annoying replacement sounds dialog (provided your global rack was empty when you have closed Synfire last time). This seems to work a bit more reliable.

Could this be a problem with Cubase 7.5 I wonder?  I'm still on 7.0.6 currently and I don't get any of Juergen's problems.

It's strange you're getting no sound from Halion Sonic, a separate issue that needs investigating.

As far as I can tell, you have done everything correctly.  You have a reserved drone in Cubase which is correct.  The missing bit is on your global rack.  It should have an additional tab across the top (where it says 'All' and 'MIDI').  Mine is called DAW3 Generic/x64.  It is this tab that you would need to highlight and click the '+' to add the drone to the rack.

I'm sorry but I don't know why the tab is missing.  Do you still have Cubase 7.0 installed?  I understand it is a separate installation if you upgraded.  If so, you could try it on there?

If you're talking about the Steinberg Hub crash problem, the same exists in 7.0 I'm afraid.  You just have to disable the Hub while they sort it.

Did you uninstall 7.0?  If not it should still be there.

Although Juergen has 7.5 and I don't think he gets the problem you're getting with the transient drones, so maybe it would be wasted effort.

Maybe wait for Andre to comment.

But in the video of @ Pete i have seen, that there is a connection made between  Synfire and Cubase.
So he nows the answer ..why Synfire is not recognizing the transientdrone, but i use Cubase 7.5 and @Pete has Cubase 7.0 , maybe there is something chanced ?

Yeah,  i could install Cubase 7 again, because there is a windows /Cubase 7.5 crash dump problem and must still be sorted out by Steinberg.
