Change Instrument parameter globally, i.e., across all sections at the same time.

Posted

I have, for an example, a song with 8 different sections. While I am working on it I decide I need to change the pan position and interpretation of one of the instruments for all the sections.

I wish there was a way to select the specific instrument and parameter across all sections and apply my changes in a single global operation.

One way I thought of was to show all parameters in the global section with a list of the sketch instruments and a check box beside each. Only the ones checked would receive the parameter pasted/ dragged or otherwise activated in the phrase in the global section parameter list.

If I have overlooked how to accomplish this, I'd be happy to be informed!

That's one of the Synfire features: Inheritance. You would change a parameter in the root container, which affects all its children. HN2 can't do that. Its root container is hidden, because it keeps the basis sketch.

Workaround: Drag-copy the parameter data to every section.

I'll take that as a compliment!

Anyway ... for what it's worth ... as a 'Song Writing' program and ultimately a 'teaser' to upgrade, I think every where, HN2 should do everything it does as streamlined and user friendly as possible.

I do know about the 'work around,' but I am not sure how adding the feature I request ... functioning in a hidden container that the user cannot access ... would dampen the interest/ desire to upgrade.

Philosphically, I think it's the opposite. The more 'intuitive' and user friendly HNLE and HN2 are, the more people will adapt them and the more insterest will be generated in upgrading. If products are perceived as 'difficult' or 'klunky' at the entry level, many will expect the same in the advanced products and vote 'no' with their wallets.

Think about most DAW LE programs. They have limited features, but what they do have functions in a similar fashion to the more advanced products.
