Question about Phrase-Names after Library Midi Import

Posted

Hello Forum,

I am very happy about the feature to import all Midifiles from a folder into a library !

Is there a way that the out coming phrases be named as the Midi-File Name was instead of the selected Instrument ?

Example:

Folder consists of Datas "4th hat closed 30.mid", "16th hat both.mid", "8th toms.mid" ….

After Import (Checkbox "Gemeinsamer Ordner"  selected)

DRUMS

      Track 10 - GM-Drumkit

      Track 10 - GM-Drumkit

      Track 10 - GM-Drumkit

      ... and so on

I need this after Import:

DRUMS

      4th hat closed

      16th hat both

      8th toms

      and so on ….

I know that the Midiname was not lost, if I converted all in separate Folders.

But I want all in one Folder ("DRUMS" see above example)

thanks for tips, mike

After you drag the phrase into the library ... where it shows the instrument name on the phrase ... just right click the icon in the library and you see a rename menu item. Click that and a box opens where you can rename.

A tip ... FWIW

When I chop a midi file I like to identify the song sections ... intro, verse, prechorus, chorus, break, middle 8, outro, etc. ... especially for drums. This is because usually there will be different drumming and ending fills. For example, it is common for a chorus to have rides. Identifying them this way makes it easy later to look for drum phrases that will fit best with a particular part of a song I am working on.

I should add ... you can rename the instrument in the panel to the right 'Instrument Label' under the instrument tab in HN2. Then you will have everything you drag to the library at least with the initial name you want. In HN2 if you import with 'Span Sections' checked and then make sure your sections are the right length, usually 8 bars, your phrases in the instrument will reflect the form of your song and can be easily further labeled from the basic label of the instrument.

Thank you for the answers Prado,

I don't drag phrases manualy to a library.

I have a folder on the hdd wich consists of more hundred short midi-files.

This files i want to import to a new library automatical.

All is working fine at this point !

It is a new funktion for doing that in the library import dialog box ! Very nice.

Only the names of the phrases where not the names of the midifiles.

Manualy renaming is theoretical possible, but not a solution for me - because the phrases are to much for doing this.

Yes, I'm still in elementry school learning HN2 ... so I have no auto-importing. But I do plan to enter University in the not too distant future.

So, I don't know if there is a naming convention available for you.

It would certainly be useful to grab the file name and tag it to the phrase during import somehow.

Good morning, Prado thanks again for your reply.

The Import to library funktion is part of Synfire - I dont know at the moment, but I think HN2 cant do that.

In Synfire there is now the ability to convert a large amount of midifiles at once.

And the "outcomming phrases" (I should better say the Phrasepools) hold the name of the Instrument, wich was selected during the Import. So the Information of the Filetext get lost, if all is imported to "Gemeinsamer Ordner".

I wish you a nice day,  greetings mike
