Can I record parameter automation with the parameter channel fader in the right pane of the 'Instruments' window?

Posted

I'd like to know if I can record parameter automation by mousing the parameter channel fader in the right pane of the 'Instruments' window?

In other words, instead of using a hardware controller or drawing in the editor window with tools, can I select the parameter, click the 'p' record button and record my movement of that parameter's channel fader from the right window pane?

I've tried this, but no luck so far. If this can be done, I sure wish there was a way to lock the scroll wheel to the fader handle for more fluid control while recording the parameter.

Also, the "Shift for overdub" message confuses me. Does that mean you hold down Shift as you click the red 'p' record button ... and then release it?

Does it mean that you do not 'tick' the other "overdub" box to the right of the transport controls?

Or are you supposed to do both to record a parameter?

Recording a parameter currently requires to send equivalent MIDI CC input from outside. Although the fader does generate MIDI CC output, this data is not fed back to the input yet. That is, you can not yet record fader movements unless you are using external MIDI controllers. This is on the list.

SHIFT-Click does not require you to hold SHIFT all the time. Ticking the Overdub box, you no longer need to SHIFT-Click.

Thank you! I like 'the list!' :)  Pretty please add my 'locking scroll wheel to the fader!' It will really make a powerful way to use that capability.

I think I understand the 'shift + click 'p' ... it is for instances when you only want to record the parameter without affecting the take/ figure. Correct?

Also, when you 'over dub,' does this 'merge' the new midi input, or 'over write' if there is a current figure at the same point in the timeline?

It would be nicee to have add to existing track, replace existing track, mute current track and create a new track to record too.

Let's go all in!

Cycle recording with comping of the takes.
