About Symbol Types in Figures

Posted

Hi.

Sometimes after an MIDI import I find that one or more of the chunks, unlike the rest, has been given a Figure that includes multiple symbol types.    Like this:

If I wish, I can rerun the Figure Recognition and limit it to a single symbol type, getting a result like this:

What are the pros and cons, or technical differences, between leaving it alone as imported, or remaking it to use only a single symbol type?

Most critical to me are probably any differences in playback (if any), but I'm interested to understand the implications as fully as possible.

Thanks to anyone who can comment on this!

You can rerun FR with different settings at any time.

Polyphonic material almost always turns up as multiple symbol types. In your example you should probably disable bass segments, or have them simplified.

Differences in playback often pop up when you play a phrase against different harmony. You would rather not use blue H symbols for chords. Here's a tutorial on chords vs. melodies.
