Allow multiple files to be selected when performing a midi import

Posted

Lots of sample libraries come with midi version but these tend to be short snippets. Importing them into a synfire library is a pain in the bum as each one creates its own folder then has to be moved around.
Request is to allow multiple files to be selected and then import them sequentially into a folder.

I'm still waiting to up grade ... but this is an excellent suggestion for the very reason noted.

Additionally, I also wish you could rename the channels as you import so a SMF without GM patches can be given a meaningful name instead of, for an example,  'Midi 2.'

You've given me an idea.

I usually import midi files into my DAW and strip out data I don't want.

But it would be just as easy to take a bunch of short snippets and dump them in my DAW, leaving a measure(s) of blank space between each one. Synfire should break them up into individual phrases.

At the same time insert a General Midi patch number/name so the phrases get named correctly.

I'll try it tonight and let you know how it works.

It's a good one, but I don't think the GM patch part is going to work ... as it appears to me in HN2 anyway, that you can only assign one instrument to the file on import.

However, what if you did the same thing with a bunch of snippets of bass lines, or drums, or synth lines, etc., using only one category at a time, e.g., bass lines. Then the function to pool phrases would come in handy.

I don't know the naming convention in the pool. One problem is that I believe a contiguous midi file can only have one assigned name.

Alternatively, why not just import and put each snippet on a different midi track in the DAW and export a new midi file from your DAW?
