Global Edit of all containers of one instrument

Posted

It would be nice if there a way to globably set or alter the volumes of all container that had a flute.. Often over the course of a song, i get variations in volumes of some containers.

Something like holding down SHIFT and changing volume of in the mixer page, should set all containers of the same instruement to same volume..  The Expression command would be used to change individual volumes for certain passages in a container.  One could draw, use a slider or foot pedal to control expression.

It's unfortunate that some software instruments don't use expression only volume, but the vast majority of instruments do use expression.

Hunh? I thought Andre sead you could do this in SFP/E. It was exactly a feature I was requesting in HN2.

I also hate that the wide area near the bottom of the mixer channel and just above the name of the instrument is also sensitive to move the fader. I keep on accidentaly clicking there and resetting my volume fader. I think the GUI should only be sensitive in the narrow strip where the fader handle is for click reset.

  1. Select the Volume parameter.
  2. Check View >> Trace Parameters.
  3. Visit all containers that set a Volume and delete it there.

This will leave only one Volume setting in the root container valid for the entire song. Alternatively you could move Volume settings to the root (drag & drop).

If I understand this, Supertonic ... which is always a fair question!, you are describing reducing each instance ot an instrument to be controlled by a single volume fader. Is this correct?

It would be nice in the futre if SNF had a mixing component where you could set volumes for the instruments in individual containers, but there was a master control that 'ganged' all the individual instances from each container and could relatively change the volume of the instrument across all instances.

And if this 'ganged' master fader for each instrument could be automated, it would really be something special for dynamics of a composition.

Yes, a single parameter in root does what markstyles wants to do.

The ganged control is an interesting idea.

Hopefully, mostly on topic ... but it would be nice to also have a fader 'lock' in each container. So you didn't accidentally change your setting. It seems Vol and Pan are the only two parameters where you can more or less inadvertently change the parameter by a misplaced click.

(update) Cubase does something like this ... slightly different application, but similar concept. When faders are ganged in the mixer, Cntrl key permits movement of one of the ganged faders by the mouse without moving the others. Otherwise when you move one, they all move relatively with it. A lock on channel fader settings in HN2 anyway, wouldn't need to be unlocked and relocked once the original level was set, but by using a key stroke with the mouse pointer, could be adjusted.

If 'ganging' comes to be, that could of course over ride the setting relatively in each container ... but it too could have it's own lock on its fader.

Logic uses a good method.  You highlight the instrument strips from mixer page. Then all highlighted instruments will move by a similar amount, but keep the relationship the same.
