Ilok2 damaged. SFP works somewhat. I need help

Posted

I bumped into my Ilok and the usb plug was at a 45 degree angle.. I pulled it completely out - aligned the 4 pins. and Ilok 2  mostly work.. Synfire will open and import a midi.. But it will not open a previous SFP file..

Would a damaged Ilok2 work like this.. or would SFP just not even boot at all?

I tried re-installing Ilok2 manager.. But computer locked up on 'waiting for other installations'. although no other installations are running..

I had a serious situation last week.  Logic completely would not boot.  I traced it down to 3 OSX's on different drives.  If I hold down control, and then pick the desired OSX.  it works.. before I was doing that it was picking different files from different osx librarys. For instance desktop pictures were wrong..

I've also had some installers give me the same error messages, but not all installers.

Can I install the lastest version of SFP on a different OSX. Or do I need to start with and earlier version and go thru updates?

Not sure how to continue.  Ilok may be mal functioning.. Or OSX 10.7.5.  I trid to install OSX 10.8..but the installed it could not install this OSX on computer..

So I'm at a loss as to what's going on.. any ideas or suggestions folks?    thanx..

I am admittedly speculating ... but I cannot believe the iLok would permit SF to run, but somehow interfere with opening older projects.

As far as I know, the iLok permits the program to run (execute) or not. Once it runs or is running, it has nothing further to do with the program.

As I said, I'm speculating ... but I will be amazed if my opinion here is incorrect.

PS I've been amazed before! :)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you are right. I was cleaning my mac and I threw away all installed VSTs. since Logic pro does not use them.. I'm wondering if Ilok had a hidden file in a vst folder.. Cause when I first tried to run SFP, it said something about  my ILok drives being outdate.. I downloaded them.. But Ilok install locks up at beginning of install.

Yeah SFP would run or not run at all.. I just shoved the ILOK  back together.. It has 4 pins sticking out.. What I'm really afraid is my OSX is corrupted.. Altough I run Disk Warrior,  says it's OK.  Anti virus is ok.. A heat sync fell off the mother board.. It is literally held in by a horse shoe shape, which looks like paper clip, cut at a quarter of inch.. I even found the plastic backing which hold it in place but that is obviously broken.  Literally a 1/2 cent tiny chunk of plastic and two places said replace the mother board, $1500 dollars. It's a 2008 Mac pro intel.  People are having a hard tme moving them at $500.

I got an app which lets me contol the fans speed. so I just turn it up a bit and all is fine.. I just hope this machine will hold out till end of years, then I'll decide on what to get.

Prado is correct regarding the iLok. It would not let Synfire start.

3 OS X on different drives, that's asking for trouble. It may boot fine, but the user is likely to confuse the programs on the drives and that could mess up your OS. You possibly already have done so.

You can install from the 1.6.6 download right away.

Yes I ran SFP on my laptop that works fine.. But Ilok recently changed their software, so they had to be updated, so that was what was confusing me.. I got SFP to work fine, but I really need to buy another Ilok.  The USB plug is sticking out an extra 1/3 of an inch, and it's an intermittant connection too.

I never confuse the three OSX's on my system.. My friend swears up/down it's very unhealthy.  But googling it, I found no mention of it being bad..  I had a partition of a drive with a clone of the OSX.  And another installation to run Disk Warrior and other Utilities.  But Mac would not boot normally by itself,  it would start to boot, and shut off. If I hold down option key and then pick the system I want to use, things are OK..

But yes, I do suspect the OSX is corrupted.. Some app installers are 'waiting' for other installations to quit, when there are none.  In Logic you could not use option A to select all events, you had to use the pull down menu..

So yes it's time to re-install my OS... ecccchh.
