Palette Behavior Quirks

Posted

There are probably some good reasons, but I find the Palette window 'meta behavior' very confusing.

Why doesn't the palette window have the standard Windows minimize and full screen/ reduce buttons in the upper right corner of the window frame ?

It is inconvenient at times to have it 'always on top,' I'd like to be able to minimize it without 'killing' it.

Also, why isn't there a regular drop down menu for Palette? Finding it only in the context menu is inconvenient.

Finally, the save a palette for a preset is not as straightforward. I think what you save should be nested as presets to clearly distinguish them from generic.

Check out View >> Window as Panel

Also try in global preferences: Local Menu Bars. Not sure if this also has any effect on Windows, though.

There are no complete palette presets. You can only save Colorings and Layouts as presets separately. Or you can save the current Coloring & Layout as the default setting for new palettes.

A complete palette would be a regular document file.

Will do and get back.

Thanks as always for your 'Super' responsiveness.

As all the other windows that open appear to have the normal 'minimize' button, it's not clear to me why Palette wouldn't.

Panels are also know as Tool Palette Windows. They are supposed to stay always on top, so the user can pick from them tools, colors, fonts, inspectors, whatnot.

You can turn a palette into a normal window with the above command.

Edit> Preferences> User Interface shows this and the sub 'spawning' check box. They are unchecked and they do not respond to mouse clicks.

As far as the palette windows, unticking 'Show windows as panels' reverted to normal windows behavior.

But if I close the palette and open it again from the progression context menu, it is again ticked. How would I change the default to open as a normal window?

Thank you.
