Phrase tagging in song?

Posted

I am spending a lot of time importing and labeling phrases.

I went back to a song I made a few weeks ago and wanted to identify a phrase playing so I could use it in another song.

I suppose i could copy the figure to the new song ... but I wanted to identify if from my library.

Is there a label tag that stays with a phrase pulled from the library so it can later be identified? Or some other way to identify the source phrase?

No, there is no tagging like that. Sooner or later, each tracking will break, because  the source files are also changing. Also where should all the tracking information be kept if you copy/cut/paste multiple phrases?

Phrases are not audio samples. They are intended to be ripped apart, transformed and molded together.

I suppose the place to keep it would be as a 'property' of the current take or figure ... some type of right click menu function that shows 'origin' as the library label.

Phrases do have unique labels in the library, no? Seemingly the labels could remain attached to a phrase even with permutations.

Not a 'deal breaker,' but certainly a useful convenience.
