Shared racks & global instruments

Posted

So, it took me a long time to setup the plugins in the shared racks, with descriptions and all.
But when I try to load a shared rack in an instrument, nothing happens, i can only choose 1 and theres no sound.
The manual is not really clear about it .

I tried to setup the global instruments, but when I choose shared racks for the first channel, it also changes for the next two (chords & bass).
It's driving me nuts... I have a fair understanding of midi and stuff, but this is really beyond me...

Soundassigning in Synfire is not easy..use the flowchart..but i see it now!.. it explains nothing about a shared rack!

What is a shared rack ..that must be explained on the flowchart ?.. there is/are video about soundassigning a shared rack

But i like to see all relevant soundassigning information also on the flowdiagram
So the flowdiagram must be updated by Cognitone

Impossible to memorize all this and a handy flowdiagram is the solution, but is must show all information

That flow chart is more designed to be used when creating a new song. You wouldnt create a shared rack for each song. The idea of a shared rack is you put all the effort in once, then pretty much leave it alone after that. It is a shared rack, to be shared and available to every tune. So as far as creating a new tune, you just decide you want an instrument from the shared rack and select it.

To create a shared rack its best to follow one of the tutorial videos on the topic

But i like to have also a flowchart for a shared rack in words and pictures and the definition of a shared rack on the flowchart too.

A shared rack is for general use... open a new empty arrangment and a another ....and assign a shared rack to it

You can use over and over again the same sounds in a arrangement

The video is supporting this video information

I like to see the distinction between per song or all songs in synfire itself

Flow charts only make it more confusing, except for people with a technical or scientific background.

There really is nothing special about the shared rack. Just drop a plug-in on the "Shared Rack" port list, populate it with the desired sounds and connect it to a device. If you do not yet have one, make a new one. All this is shown in the videos:

@Phys6: Can you post a screenshot of your Audio & MIDI Setup window (Shared rack port list)?

I partly agree with you..

Well i found the flow diagram very useful..i follow the yes or no routing and all information is there.
It is only not complete.. and can be more improved ( userfriendly).

It is written on paper so..it can be studied easily, while the video is more demanding to follow.

Ok, you refer to a video for a shared rack.. has this video the same title as "shared rack" ? That makes it much easier to know where to look for the right video.

Where to find this video "shared rack" ?

-------------------------------------------------

I like to see in this list https://users.cognitone.com/tutorials/synfire  a separation of how to make music in Synfire and how to setup Synfire
And add the video : setting up a shared rack

Now it is clear ..

I like also the flowchart that it will be finished for all soundassigning ( make the quality better too, that everything is clear to read )

-------------------------------------------------------------

Yes .. Setting Up Global Instruments is the video for a shared rack it seems...NO it is for the global instruments

Were is the shared rack video than ?

I urge Cognitone to get the right naming for the video, because i cannot find it ..
I think i found the video : Creating a Device Description by Extraction ..  --> (i am looking for a Shared Rack!)
Well the name of this video must be changed into  Creating a Device Description by Extraction ( Shared rack )

The video shows a sampler, but there are also Vsti synthesizers ..HAlion 4 is a sampler Vsti--> device extracting is not possible for a sampler, but i am not sure about Halion4 ?

-----------------------------------------------------------

In my case the automatic device extraction is not working ( i must contact further Steinberg about this( oi already did) )

The video  Creating a Device Description by Extraction starts not at the begin : a empty arrangement with a unassigned sound
It starts right away in the setup screen..so i did a setup with 3 sounds assigned with Halion4 like in the video, but than i go back to the arrangement screen ..what will i see there ?

The default state of Synfire..one unassigned sound ----> this must be changed also after making the device description !

( also to test asssigned sound thatis connected..how ? and a "sweet spot"for a sound is acadabra for me)

So what is the startcondition in Synfire ( arrangement view ) for using a shared rack?..this is not showed in the video

Start with a empty arrangement--> setup shared rack--> setup arrangement with the sounds of the shared rack by clicking on the instrumentname in the arrangement window

------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok i added the 3 sounds in the arrangmentvieuw ..and it works now!

This video must be improved, because it is not userfriendly

Yes, the video is partly covering the setup and has the wrong name..is it logic? ..that you have trouble to set this up..answer : yes
